Decap Push 1 Performance

San Francisco-based hip-hop producer Decap debuts a virtuosic video for his new single “Feeling”. With Steadicam rolling, the veteran hip-hop producer performs the entirety of the track on Push in one take, using no quantization - all the sequencing, looping and soloing done without any sort of safety net.

It's sad that people have no idea what musicianship looks like anymore. The fact that he achieves and displays such a high degree of connection between his emotion, body language and composition, are only magnified by the fact that he is playing an electronic instrument that uses loops and pre recordings to convey the piece. He successfully removes the artifice and manages to draw you into a well arranged groove that incorporates and embraces an electronic instruments prefab shortcomings while magnifying the technology's ability to simultaneous allow free and limitless expression. Go you! Well done!

Decap has worked with so many artists, and made bangers the whole way. The Push is a live instrument, any musician knows when the music takes over, anything can happen. 1:20 I have heard solo's in rock music, in jazz music, in blues music ... You should check out Haywyre then. Classically trained and does jazzy, funky electronic stuff live. For example, the music videos he uploads to KZbin are done live and are ever so slightly different from the studio releases on iTunes and Spotify since he improvises a lot.
