Well this is an interesting and novel idea for a video. I used to live right off the Loop, in the Sharpstown area. Like you, I am a Texas explorer. I've always wanted to do what I like to call The Texas Triangle. Dallas to El Paso to Houston and back to Dallas. Actually, the start point can be any one of these; I live in Dallas so I start there. Just doing some quick figuring in my head, it looks like roughly 1600 - 1700 miles, give or take. Why do this, you may ask? Well, in the words of the mountaineer when asked why he climbed mountains, "Because it's there."

7:34 My mom used to drive my sister and me back and forth over the 610 bridge over 59 when we were kids so we could see the view. This was in the early-to-mid 60s. 610 itself was under construction on both sides and wasn’t yet open. We would just go over the bridge, make a u-turn and go back over in the opposite direction. People called the stretch of 610 through Bellaire the “Post Oak Freeway” because it was built right over a long section of Post Oak Road that was between what is now Post Oak Boulevard in “Uptown” and South Post Oak Road south of Braeswood. The original bridge over 59 has been replaced. In 1976 it had a hole blown right through it when a tanker truck carrying ammonia rolled over the side of the ramp leading to 59 South and exploded.

I’ve heard that the GoPro cameras overheat (for example, dying after around 40 minutes). How are you able to get 2hr of footage?

The 610 Loop was actually built for the people in the suburbs. Today anything inside of the Loop is considered Houston proper. Anything outside of it is considered Houston's sprawl. You'll also notice that once you leave the 610 Loop the city seems to taper off quickly except if you're traveling West towards the Galleria. That's where Houston's urban sprawl really took over.

Loop 610, as with all the interstate ring roads, was designed and built as a way for through traffic to avoid the city center. The original planners probably didn’t realize Houston would swallow the thing whole even before it was finished.
