I laugh a little when people say they don't have a store nearby that carries the good organic foods, and they are driving 30-45 mins to find them. I have to go 75 miles for a normal grocery, or over 200 miles for a reasonable bulk organic store. I'm so happy I found Azure a couple of years ago, they are my go-to for all my groceries now. I live about 250 miles from the company, so when we get a drop it's very fresh. The close drops have no delivery charges making it even more affordable. We do have a "health food" store in town, the majority of their stock is from Azure which says a lot. I continue to watch channels like yours to get ideas of what to buy and how to cook it, thank you for bringing back your kitchen and cooking content!

I use canned salmon three ways. One is patties as you mentioned. The second is salmon salad (made just like tuna salad- drain, add mayo and whatever else you want.) The third is a dip- drain salmon, add 8 oz cream cheese, raw red onion, and Worcestershire sauce to taste. Great party dip. Love radish sprouts. They are my favorite, and my husbands favorite too. They have a zesty spicy flavor instead of just bland green.

Jess- I hear you on convenience food without the junk. I thought I would share my favorite convenience food that all my whole family loves. I make huge amounts of taco meat and package them in my appropriate sizes for dinners and freeze it. When I forgotten to take something out of the freezer I just throw the frozen meat in a pot with water and slowly defrost. I always have some kind of cheese/sour cream, frozen peppers, rice or tortillas. No one complains and it takes probably 20 minutes to throw together.

I have grown the radish sprouting seeds in my chicken run to give them something to munch on in the fall. They are a daikon type that also did a great job of breaking up the dense soil in the area they grew in.

When my dad found out he had a heart problem, mom stopped frying most foods. Salmon patties turned into salmon loaf. Mix it however you normally would for patties. Put in a baking dish and cook like a meatloaf. Or put in a microwave dish, with a hole on the middle, so it cooks evenly, and microwave

Oh let me tell you about canned salmon AND cream of mushroom soup! We LOVE making this! Sauté onions in butter or healthy oil. Add your canned salmon to the onions when the onions are about half tender. Sauté just a few more minutes until the salmon is just starting to crisp a little, then add a can of cream of mushroom soup. To thin it down you can add milk or cream. Cook as the flavors blend and let it softly boil for a few minutes. Add salt as needed and generously pepper it. Ladle over a piece of toast. Garlic toast, thick toast, toast toasted in butter, any type of savory toast will do. Cheese can now be sprinkled over the top if you like it that way. So incredibly tasty! And it’s quick and easy. This can be done in about 10 minutes. This can also be made by substituting the canned salmon with tuna steaks or salmon steaks, thin cut beef steaks or venison steaks as well. It’s just really a good combination of flavors and you already have everything you need!😁

With canned salmon, but more often canned tuna or sardines, I sauté it in olive oil with minced garlic and onion (or granulated garlic and onion powder if too pressed for time), then I add in cut or smashed tomatoes (fresh tastes best, but I have used canned diced tomatoes). Toss in freshly boiled pasta, salt, pepper, spinach, basil, arugula, mushrooms, whatever you want. It makes a really fresh-tasting pasta dish. Sometimes I skip the fish, sometimes I skip the tomatoes if it’s winter.

Cheap Ramen noodles are also wheat based, so if you are looking for a gluten free option, the Ramen that Jess ordered is a great option, as they are rice based. Costco has the best price I have found. These are common at our house.

One way I use to compare costs is by-the-meal: How much did it cost to produce that plate of food? Some friends were, for a time, into those meal delivery services, like Hello Fresh, where you get the prepackaged and mostly precut raw ingredients sufficient for one meal for two people. They were singing the service's praise, "only" $9.00 per meal. (It's much more now.) I told them the meals I make generally run maybe $3.00 per. If you're comparing the service to a restaurant: yes, it's cheaper. But compared to ordinary home cooking it's three times the price.

I'm going to look into this company and see what products they have to offer because I'm pretty sure they'll have something that I need or like that I can't find anywhere else in our local area and I'll leave about 45 minutes from the nearest grocery store. I never thought I would d be watching videos about Azure hauls, but these are so good to give ideas for things that I have never thought to even check if they have. The dried fruits are great for cutting up and mixing with herbs for tea blends. Years ago I made a recipe that was delicious that was basically bagels and lox that used canned salmon. Its essentially a strata egg casserole that uses bagels as the bread. It was delightful with dill and chives on top. If you have capers, thats next level. It makes a good brunch dish for entertaining or a hearty breakfast as dinner option.

FYI I tried roasted radishes for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Holy smoke, how do they taste like potatoes? It's awesome. I just bought 5 more packs of radishes in different varieties from MI Gardener. Eeek thats over 1000 seeds. 😮😊

speaking of junk and preservatives, I am trying to eat more grains. I bought a bag of whole grain flour. Shocked to see when I brought it home the list of ingredients in it. I expected to just see grains on the label. I looked around and found a grain mill in my province. I order milled flour...the only thing on the label is the grain. 🙌😁

I know you're a Christian, so hopefully you don't mind this pagan heart enjoying your content, but mentioning wassail definitely caught my attention. I've never heard anyone outside pagan circles call it that, it's just 'mulled cider' to most everyone that I know. But wassailing is one of my favorite old traditions, and was used in the ancient days to try and ensure a good harvest the following year, so definitely would fit well with the farming/homesteading lifestyle! Any chance you'd share your wassail recipe? I like seeing the different spice blends people use. Also, just watched your latest vid on Roots and Refuge, so glad your daughter is safe. Sending warm thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

I heard some lovely stories from Scottish Wassailers when I mentioned it once on roots and Refuge. You are most welcome here. ♥️

Jess, With all of that dried citrus, you could make a Wassail Bowl this holiday season! Never tried it but heard it's quite tasty!
