Please, allow me to brag on the treasure trove of nearly dead plants I was able to bring home from the trash pile of the new garden center down the street! Hopefully all will make it, but if only the juniper tree and tea olive make it, I will be happy. I also picked up a redbud(!), 2 little lime hydrangeas and a couple of button bushes. Oh, and a SPIREA!! YAY!!!

I’m so jealous of your yard Jim! Zone 7 in December looks like October for zone 4/5 gardens! Everything is still looking beautiful! Ps. Side jokes - we don’t have to keep our spring bulbs in the fridge! 😆🥰❤️

Great video, Jim, thank you! I need to get on my weeding game😓. Good thought about leaving bird food! One request - could you show us your shed, tools, organizing, maintaining etc? Would love to learn that!

One think I like to do for my birds heading into the winter is use an old suet feeder (one that has the little roof on the top) and stuff it with the tufts of dog hair when we brush our pup. Birds love to line their nest with it! I hang it near the feeder so they find it easily. 😁 Thanks for all the great tips Jim!

I like your channel Jim. I'm about an hour west of you and am retired. I've just built 15 raised beds for vegetables and will have spring and fall gardens. But you are inspiring me to do more. I want more tress shrubs and flowers. I guess a little at a time. Have you ever considered having a calendar of vegetable and flower to guide people like me? It's probably way too much work. Maybe you could sell it or make it an offer on your channel. Thanks for the help you give.

Ended up accidentally on this channel and wish I’d checked some of the content before planting my rhododendrons today. Love that this is actually in my home town. You really can’t get better local advise anywhere. Will be checking in frequently to build my scant knowledge about gardening, and perhaps become a more confident gardener in the process. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi Jim: I'm in Greensboro, NC and want to let you know about two excellent and generally unknown Winter vegetables. When I was in Germany (military) I was introduce to Felt salad also known here as mache, corn salad, etc. I was able to fine the seeds online as mache after some research and is wonderful. I have it for most of the year in succession planting. The other is claytonia, also wonderful. Their soft texture make it better than lettuces, and if you allow a few plants to seed in the Summer you have seeds for the next Fall/Winter/Spring. Additionally, I recommend Red Vein Sorrel with a little limon flavor. Sorrel will become sad in the Summer and produce seeds, but will continue to live and recuperate in the Fall giving you some amazing leaves for your Winter mix since is perennial. In my home garden I mix them with my other Winter common salads. You can allow them to drop seeds and will self reproduce; however, the claytonia can overtake the planting area since is very prolific.

I had to pull a still blooming Angelonia from a pot to put in kale & violas yesterday. Hard for me but we've got nights in the 20s coming so they WERE on the way out. Sure was a stellar performer all summer. Watched the vid with Brie, if I can ever get some good soil in a bed, I'm going to try that. Thanks Jim, turned my local greenhouse owner on to your channel.

Hi Jim, I’m in 9b California, I have 3 6in pots of limelight hydrangeas on my patio, their only about a foot tall ( babies) don’t know if I should plant them where I eventually want them in my garden or keep them in their pots over winter and just water them until spring then plant in ground. I was hoping to plant them in big Patio pots permanently to be trees. Help !! Don’t know what to do 🙏🏼🥺
