that metal sheet you found might have been a muck sheet. miners would lay that down under a spot they were blasting so that the ore would fall onto the metal sheet instead of the ground, then it was easier to muck the ore out than if it was on the ground.

Thanks for the info. I’m learning a lot about mining from these rambles.

Have you ever taken some of the old tailing that have been broken off inside the mine and tried panning it out to see if there is gold or copper the miner were after ??

I haven’t done that yet. I don’t know my geology so mainly I just think “cool looking rocks”. The Google said this mine was an old nickel mine but of course there can be more than one mineral present.

I'd be careful digging around in old tailings. You never know what kind of toxic waste is left there

Technically, both cairn and carn are correct; they both mean a pile of rocks. But I think most people say cairn, especially when referring to a pile of rocks that's marking a trail. Also, I'm not an English major, but I've spent way too much time watching mine exploration videos and adit is pronounced "add-it". 🤓

Thank you. Especially for the adit knowledge. I only learned that word in this hobby. Heading back to the area tomorrow to check out the mine we couldn’t get to this day. If it’s cool I’ll post it.

I took my Subaru up into tougher mining territory than that!!

It’s the clearance that gets you. Hard to tell on the video. Also I’m less adventurous when my daughter’s with me 🙂 I don’t mind having to hike out of the desert, I’m more protective when she’s with me.

Yeah, I am a teasing, poking troll. Don't mind me. However, I go into that rough, one usually gets out of the vehicle to move any boulders that one might not clear. My v4 outback was a scappy badger out there. I didn't think I would make it and shouldn't have tried but she pulled me through @@101waystodieinthedesert4
