Күн бұрын

In this video Aaron Hilliard of the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society, and creator of Mushroom Wonderland, takes us on an adventure into the forest in December to discover what wild mushrooms are growing trailside. Whether they can be eaten, will they make you sick, and there's even a couple of varieties that are known to create hallucinations that can be found growing in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. These mushrooms can also be found elsewhere but this just happens to be where mushroom Wonderland is based. It's been a long and wonderful mushroom season and it continues to keep going, so if you're curious about those strange mushrooms growing everywhere This is the video for you!

We will not accept any responsibility for negligence or accidental ingestion of poisonous mushrooms or plants. These videos are not intended to be a definitive field guide, but rather a starting point to become familiar with habitat, Everyone is encouraged to do their own studies, acquire literature or internet resources to safely and confidently identify wild foods before they eat them. When eating a new wild mushroom, it is advised to start with only a small amount, and make sure that it is fresh and that it is cooked thoroughly. Some mushrooms do not agree with certain individuals, and this is typically discovered on a case-by-case basis. Even the most edible of mushrooms contain compounds that can be tough for the human digestive tract to handle. Some “edible” species have small amounts of certain toxins that will easily break down with cooking. Fungi contains a molecule known as chitin that is the same thing that makes the exoskeleton of shellfish so hard, and cannot be broken down by the human digestive system, so it is another good reason to thoroughly cook mushrooms. All the ideas expressed in the comments should be taken with a large grain of salt. I don’t think there is any other field of study or science that has more misinformation being shared so freely and boldly. Mushroom Wonderland and Aaron himself have no opinion and neither encourage nor discourage the use of mushrooms containing mind-altering compounds. These mushrooms contain powerful chemicals and should be treated with a high level of responsibility. Any video topics on the habitat, natural distribution, and morphological features of psychoactive mushrooms portrayed on this channel are purely for scientific and educational purposes.

Aaron, I am obsessed with your channel; I vastly preferred the old intro (it gave such a sense of wonder that all mushroom foragers can relate to). This new intro sounds way too unnature-y with the trap music beats, etc. although I still like the 'welcome to mushroom wonderland' and the food scenes :)

i've been finding a lot of great mushrooms this december too in seattle. i've been kinda surprised to find a lot of elfin saddles lately cause i thought those were spring mushrooms. most of them have been moldy...found a beautiful fuzzy one where the mold had just started in one of my favorite urban mushroom patches in another apartment building's small yard so so so love this channel. have been watching for almost two years and i'm glad your channel is growing

I was buying capsules for quite a bit & foraged for free, now. I have watched for a few months and I'm hooked. Thanks & I'll take a look at that merch. I've always been fascinated by fungi and hope to attend a meeting at some point in the future. I've never been foraging but would love to go with a guide some time. Your little skeleton that you found is pretty funny! Because last year 2022 in the fall I was nowhere within a mile of a house out in the middle of the forest and I found a 4-in tall Gumby toy figure. You know who Gumby is right? The cartoon clay figure. Which I thought that was extremely odd. So you never know what you're going to find out in the middle of the forest.

I love your show, however I must admit I get a little frustrated by your random description of the mushrooms you find. You provide tons of information on some and very little on others. My suggestion is to cover a half dozen points for every mushroom first, then go on with other information. Then people can take notes and get the important points in the same order, first thing, every time. 1) Name 2) identifing charistics 3) edibility 4) Is it medicinal 5)type of strata it grows in 5) ways to prepare for food or medical. Just saying a standerdized format would help viewers get the important info without needing to search the video. Thanks for all the wonderful information and experience.❤

I don't like the callous way you pick the mushrooms and just throw them back down like they are garbage. Please leave them growing to fruit and multiply. They need to do their natural process all the way through. Please don't spread this type of callous behavior to others. Too many people are out doing this and that is very bad for the environment. We need to leave them be. Remember our National Park motto: "Take nothing but a photograph and leave nothing but your footprints."
