I have a 1st gen, 1st gen! My Dad ordered this truck new in 1989, built in December 1989 , the truck is immaculate for the year and all and mostly original. Only thing not original is upgraded fuel pump and injection pump tuning. VE pump,12 valve are not even close to excactly the same, there are suddenle and drastic changes sometimes. I am struggling to find parts and support for this year model. A!C hoses, especially the hoses with the capillary tube! The rest is available, the Dodge Dealer where it was bought from originally can’t find or get the parts either. I’ve searched everywhere I know how. Any help would be greatly appreciated and from any followers of this channel. Thank you for your help and support on your videos on our old dinosaurs!

Tim, I looked on Amazon for the auto meter single gauge steering column plastic mold. But all the reviews said that the part did NOT come with mounting holes to match the stock bottom plastic. Hope that’s not too confusing… was this your experience??

So this is for a 91.5-93 years. the pre 91.5 you need to either use a reader on the crank pulley or a Alternator drive tach. he must have an ECM to have that plug. Correct me if I am wrong? Great videos

Yes this only works for 92 and 93. I don't think the 91.5 has this plug but i could be mistaken. And you are correct on the other options for non ECM trucks

Nice job put it together only problem is like I got a 3800 RPM governor spring and only goes to 3000 it’s a six in a row jim

The higher rpm give spring is actually more important in its ability to improve throttle response. I would guess you'll rarely get over 3k rpms

Did the install looks great and it works. I think I have it calibrated correctly, can you help with the Minimum and Maximum RPM's for a 1993 5.9 12 valve, looked in all my books can't find that info.? Great Vid's!

Max rpm is going to depend on your timing, gov spring, and cam. Stock truck will not get over 2200 rpm or so

Awesome. This is on the project list. have you run into any speedometer issues? I have replaced the sending unit on the trans and got no love. I've seen some tutorials on repairing the factory speedo but was considering aftermarket. Thoughts?

Hey I’m currently about to do this to my truck I can’t figure out how to get the old housing off, and it feels like I may break it I posted in the 1st gen cummins page and am waiting to see if anyone has any tips but figured I’d ask here too. How do you actually get the old housing off without breaking it

I've been looking at doing this and you used a separate ground wire but couldn't you just jumper from where the black (DC ground) wire lands to where it shows to connect to lamp ground?

I think you could do that. My tendency with grounds though is to go over kill. Seems like most electrical issues with these trucks boil down to grounds

If your harness is too far gone the best way to go is a painless wiring harness

Check the plug with a bolt meter. Does everything else work on your truck like ac, cruise, charging, overdrive?

I have an old banks tach…. It is literally a relabeled isspro even says isspro on the back.

Man its just that easy? Could I have a bad tach?? The needle jumps just slightly when I turn on the key, and jumps slightly again when I start the truck but both times it falls right back to 0

Do you have the dealer installed tach. I'd check the ground first and then check this harness

I know my pcm is so I ordered a one wire alternator with a tach terminal on it I hooked up the signal wire and the tach needle just jumps around then pegs out at 4k. Could it be sending the wrong signal or a faulty tach?

Interesting! I actually didn't even know you could buy a 1 wire alt with a tach signal wire. It sounds like the signal it's using is for a gas tach though. It may be worth calling the company to see if it can be recalibrated for a diesel tach.

@@decentgarage The company is Hagemeister Enterprise in Oregon. They made a one wire alternator for the cummims specifically for them. You can get one with or without a tach terminal, but I can't get my tach to read correctly I didn't know if it is a tach issue or if there was a way to test the signal.

I don’t know if you’ll see this after all this time, but I’m looking to put a tach on my truck with a 318 in it. Does it work the same way? Any difference in the wiring/harness I need or whatever? I’m pretty stupid when it comes to electronics and wiring so I want to make sure I don’t go buying a bunch of parts I can’t even use.

I do not believe this will work on the gas engine, at least I don't think it has the factory plug as shown in this video. An option for you would be to get a PA performance alternator with the tach signal option.

@@decentgarage alright, thanks for letting me know before I went and wasted my money lol. One more question though if you don’t mind. I watched your video from a while back when you installed new LED headlights into your truck and I bought a pair of the same ones for mine. I’ve heard some complaints from people that for whatever reason they’re finnicky in cold weather and often don’t want to turn on. If I’m not mistaken you’re from Canada so your winters are probably a good bit colder than where I live, just curious if you’ve had any issues with that? I definitely need some brighter lights but obviously can’t install them if it’s gonna cause me to be without headlights entirely during the winter.

91.5 is a bastard child when it comes to wiring so I don't know for sure. Check if you have the connecter for it under your dash.
