Deciding to tow? The A Frame process from start to finish

Thanks very much for this. Just starting out with this. Luckily Saga seem to know all about this mod - although came in at twice the price of original quote from RAC who totally misunderstood what an A frame was

We are with Saga for the car that we have an A frame fitted and it wasn’t a major problem. We rang them up and told them about the modification. The call team had to pass it to the loss adjusters for checking and all was fine with no additional premium. We also told the motorhome insurance about the tow bar but that wasn’t an issue either.

Couple of things.... For breakdown you need to tell the company that it's a car and van combo. Secondly...look into driving in Europe....another minefield. As a solo traveller with a dog it's great to have a car!!!

Great summary of the process Dave! The only thing I would add for anyone else, is to be prepared for your insurers totally misunderstanding what A framing is all about. They have a little list of modification tick boxes and A frames will rarely appear. I've had insurers trying to add a towbar or even a bodywork modification to cover it. I would also question whether it has been added correctly if the insurer says "it's all done and there's no additional charge" as (to my mind) fitting £3-£4k of electronically braked A frame to the car should increase your premium!

Pretty much, aye... and the car can take 300 kilos, if needed...
