It's a shame that the catwalk/crusher section buged out because that section, with the huge, mostly empty area, turning into a crusher hell of noise and scrolling walls and inconsistent cover is like one of the most extreme perversions of John Romero's design law of 'contrasts' I've ever experienced in doom. A.L.T is interesting, lots of creative approaches to level design and strange twists. I recommend it to everyone, but I'm not sure if it fits with the classic uv max + pistol start + no saving style.

Cool, one of my favorite levels from one of my favorite WADs, so i feel obligated to leave some thoughts here. About the map itself, there's a lot to love here. Imaginative and stunning visuals, creative and adventurous concept-driven sections and big, big brawls complete with IOS end battle. Perhaps it all buckles under its own vision at some points (bugs, overambitious length,...), but overall there is just the right amount of crazy to be firmly likable for my sensibilities. This level also serves a narrative function, with a hint found in the name: a trip down the memory lane for the protagonist , the details left up to the player's interpretation. Is it all really happening? Or another cruel joke from the hellish invaders? The plot only thickens from here... All of these elements - visual, narrative, concept - often combine to define the best A.L.T maps. I am not terribly familiar with Maddzi's mapping (this author only released one other wad named "Dreamish"), but even so i am confident that "Recall" features editorial work by a fellow Russian level designer named BeeWen. In fact, BeeWen had his hand in pretty much every map in A.L.T, his work ranging from adding lighting to creating entire levels without being credited - MAP23: God is Dead, for instance, is solely credited to level designer Azamael, but aside from a few areas the map was actually made by BeeWen. Without BeeWen imput, the wad as we know it today would not exist, yet he is often unheralded partly due to language barrrier, partly due to all his WIPs having long dev cycles, partly due to all the uncredited contributions. Hopefully this will change someday. Lastly, thanks for reading this wall of ramble. If you are reading this decino, i want to thank you for what you have done so far. I do not keep up with DoomTube, only admiring from a distance, but i want you to know that i very much appreciate your devotion to making quality and entertaining content for this nearly 30 year old game. Here's to 30 more.

Thanks for doing all these submissions decino, i think we all are already looking forward to round 3, whenever that will take place. Enjoy your weekend as well :)

This WAD made Doomworld's Top 25 Missed Cacoawards. There's even an article in Vice about how strange this WAD is and why the author loves it so much: www.vice.com/en/article/paq5bz/alt-doom-mod-stalker Basically, the whole WAD is very atmospheric and experimental. When it came out, people were very divided on it. Many praised those experimental elements and the narrative. Yup, there's a narrative, but it's just through gameplay and not cutscenes. I mean, the first level starts with you witnessing your own death, taking 50 damage, and having to blast through an airplane with nazis onboard and on the wings. While that stuff was cool, many people thought the experimental elements brought down the gameplay. Personally, this megaWAD's strangeness is why it sticks out. Some parts may not be the most fun, but the imagination these levels show more than makes up for it. I think this level is my favorite from it, if at least the most memorable. This was the one I was thinking of when I mentioned on a previous vid that I wasn't sure how you'd beat it cause of the IoS spitting out so many cubes at once, but I don't remember them being stuck together in my playthrough. I do recommend playing through this WAD as it's one of the most unique experiences in Doom. The oddness is very interesting, and the narrative makes it fit in with WADs like Going Down and Three's A Crowd.
