I would go with more like an 80% correct but indeed considering he is playing while keeping up with a lot of people (and doing the voices which are awesome but reduce partially his attention) in the stream it is indeed quite impressive... congrats... OK no... i will agree with the 90% because it was just on a single playthrough which was over quite a few weeks instead of playing it over a couple of days... so that much understanding over such long dispersed time is even more impressive...

After seeing DBG watch CoM and the KH2 beginning, I can tell he finally understands that if you actually care about understanding it, you will. Too often do so called "fans" just tell a new player that it's too complicated with no direction, false statements, and they take those thoughts into the game fulfilling their own prophecy if you will. Then they go on to blame the game as well.

If one play everything, KH is not that confusing. I mean, I was confused by some elements in DDD and III but that’s because I didn’t play the X games that would have explained the confusing elements.

The only thing he still didn't seem to grasp was that the events of the game predominantly took place in the Realm of Light - it isn't a mystical unreachable realm like the Realm of Darkness is. The other point which I don't think he fully connected the dots on was the fact that Ansem was the King of Hollow Bastion. Leon straight-up tells Sora this back in Traverse Town, but I guess Dee forgot.

I know it will sound as "i am so smart", but it is about how it actually is something a 10yo can understand... I normally like games with intense plot and "complicated" stories... even as a kid when i played KH1 understood the story in general without any trouble and the reports made so much more sense about what was to come and what happened to sora when he became a heartless... so when i found out there was so much confusion with other people that played it I was surprised (a long time later when the internet actually became common)... I have only played KH1, CoM, and KH2 even today thou (because of the problem of multiple consoles, i just played the games in PS2 and later KH2. I just bought "the story so far" last week and the PS4 just this monday... But i think the problem is actually that a lot of people are more used to playing an watching stuff that tells you everything without having to think about it... they skip cut scenes or think that is just there to look cool or something like that instead of the meaning behind it... "NPCs are there just to fill space"... I can't play sports games like fifa, or shooters no matter what i do thou... i get pummeled in those... i like only games with story because i love understanding what is happening...

Actually, it has been established previously in this game that Ansem was the ruler of Yuffie and Squall's world: Hollow Bastion. They talk briefly about it the first time you meet them in Traverse Town

This world was a world of peace and light but was shattered and separated into fragmented worlds when people became greedy and tried to hoard the light for themselves. This allowed darkness to infiltrate and break it apart.

to be fair, the original version of kingdom hearts did not have the extra ansem reports that talked about nobodies and had all the foreshadowing about certain characters.

@@Speedj2 I think the original KH1 “final mix” did have those extra reports. It just was final mix exclusive, and at the time it was Japanese only. It was only until the HD remixes where they finally got localized. So they “technically” still existed in the year 2003.

I’m seeing you’re a little confused Dee so let me explain as best as I can: -Heartless are born from the darkness in people’s hearts. When the heart is removed, the light is consumed by the Heartless taking it. What remains is the darkness, and thus a new Heartless comes into existence. The body vanishes, but the body is *not* the heartless. -All living things have hearts, both people and the worlds. When a Heartless consumes a world’s heart, the world is destroyed and was sent to the “End of the World” which was all that was left -There are natural and artificial heartless. The natural ones do not have the black and red heart symbol, while the artificial ones do. -Ansem and the Final Fantasy characters come from Hollow Bastion. The FF Characters were his people

People always seem to forget that Darkness does exist in pretty much every person’s heart in the series. Minus the 7 princesses and 1 other character later on, which are individuals of Pure Light and have no darkness in their hearts. This basically means the vast majority of characters are capable of falling to darkness and/or turning into a heartless.

Also, Dee misunderstood something on the report. Ansem didn't 'created' the darkness , he simply 'extracted' the darkness from his test subjects since darkness was already inside in every being right from the very start. All also, Ansem only kept a handful of test subjects, he didn't took an entire world of people. Dee should play Birth By Sleep after this, since it's the beginning of everything.

It’s like every game is a new arc wich answers previous questions while also giving hints and new questions for future arcs. I wasn’t really sure if you were really enjoying KH but Iam glad to say that my view has completely changed. My theory, as someone who never played Kingdom Hearts before: The body and soul, if separated from the heart, apparently go to a different world, but without the heart they are not truly complete and are dubbed “Nobody.” The Heartless that takes that person’s place is a remnant of the whole person. The Heartless, therefore, are attracted to other hearts because they wish to be whole again, but instead corrupt the hearts they take. The Heartless wish to obtain the Kingdom Hearts as well. However, the light of the Kingdom Hearts is too powerful. One of two things happen here: Either the light of Kingdom Hearts destroys the Heartless, or it sends them to the second world where the body and soul reside to become whole again. But then again, that don’t make sense because the Heartless apparently also come from that side as well so... I’m utterly stumped. :3

5:39 I just want to clarify something you missed: There are 2 different types of Heartless. First, is the “Pure” Heartless, which are Heartless that come up and grow in the Realm of Darkness for (these are the Heartless that Ansem discovered). They are recognizable as Heartless that don’t bear it’s emblem anywhere (like Shadow, Giga-Shadow, Neo-Shadow, Darkball, Darkside, etc.) And then, there’s the “Artificial” Heartless. These Heartless were created during the experiments of Ansem. They’re recognizable as Heartless that are marked with the Heartless’s Emblem (Like the Soldier, Air Soldier, Bandit, Powerwild, Gargoyle, Pirate, Air Pirate, Battleship, Behemoth, etc.).

What’s really cool about the reports is that you only collect the odd numbered reports over the course of the game’s story, one for each major boss you fight. Reading just the odd numbered reports casts Ansem in a positive light, while the even numbered reports show that he had a hidden ambition to his reports all along, that doesn’t come about until after you see him in Hollow Bastion. That always stuck with me as a kid playing this.

How I understood it was: a person consists of 3 parts (body, heart and soul). A body can lose a heart, or a soul, or both. The darkness can destroy your heart, and you become a heartless. When someone becomes a heartless, they lose their body and soul, eventually. These two components can either separate, or if the soul is strong enough, combine with the body to become a nobody. When I recall correctly it is stated in one of the ansem reports that the souls remains with the body. As far as I know we never had a separation of the soul from any character. Sadly we don’t even really know what the souls purpose is in the KH universe.

@@ryapowa kind of? This video is actually the first hour or so of his first CoM stream, but he didn't care for the gameplay and chat convicted him to just do the cutscenes. He stopped playing after the first world and saw the scenes for the rest next stream. Basically, he figured out from the reports and dialogue in Re:CoM that the Organization were being completely serious when saying they were Nobodies (capital N) and weren't being figurative when they said they had no hearts or didn't feel anything. And in today's stream, part 1 of KH2... well, just watch it. Big Brain and the chat went wild.

On Ansem Report Nr. 12, at 17:50, an important thing to note is that the intro part of this report was slightly mistranslated in English (or perhaps they made a confusing localization choice there) - it's apparently supposed to be Ansem talking in first person about himself, after he discarded his own body in order to try and become a Heartless himself.

This was an excellent video! Especially the music, it really gave the Ansem Reports that deep dark and twisted feel that they deserve. And yeah, the Heartless are essentially a zombie apocalypse if zombies good shoot fire and destroy planets. They're arguably the most dangerous race of enemies in video games not because of the danger they pose to you speciifcally, but because of the danger they pose to all of creation.

The Realm of light where sora and co. had their adventure. The realm of Darkness, where the non-emblem heartless are from, and where the heart of worlds is located the realm of in between, where the shells of those separated from their hearts form as "nobodies", also home to Traverse Town, Hollow Bastion, Destiny Islands, and where Chain of Memories takes place. The secret boss you fought in Hollow Bastion says hes just a shell, so if you put two and two together you can figure out whose shell he is.

You only missed one thing, he didn't used Gummi blocks to travel different worlds. He wondered through the deepest darkness and to do that he had to cast away his body, most likely that he became a heartless himself by using his machine cuz when you fight Ansem he has the emblem. Although it's not clear how it kept his consciousness after giving himself to the darkness to recover he used Riku's body and not his own. Maybe that's why he's curious if a body can still exist after becoming a heartless.

So excited to see you upload part 1 of kh2. Managed to catch the vod today and I was so happy to see how excited you were to continue the story and how much you loved the gameplay and story structure so far. For those inevitably concerned by my comment, who plan on typing "But WhAT AbOuT cHaIN oF MeMOrIES?!?!?!?1" relax folks, he is fully going through all the games, or at least watching all cutscenes from all games. He did that for CoM because the gameplay wasn't as enjoyable for him as expected. And he did have many enjoyable reactions in there too. Back to KH2 though, seeing him play and experience 2 was amazing, fantastic, and he's very insightful and introspective when it comes to specific plot points. It was a blast to watch and I may start always watching vods again for KH2 just because I want to experience it firsthand so to speak with him despite loving his editing structure. (though more secondhand still because it's still vods) Deebee, if you see this. I'm so happy to still be along for the journey man. These past 5 years of following and supporting you have not been wasted in my eyes. I enjoy this video and the editing you put into it a lot, but in future games I definitely recommend you read any notes/papers you get as you get them. They can be easier to understand in context and I feel like a lot of significant plot points probably went over your head while playing (like not understanding anything about the main boss or his motivations 😅😅). So Ansem was basically the ruler of Hollow Bastion. It was said very briefly in the story. So the subjects in his tests were citizens of Hollow Bastion. And every world in KH has a heart, and all heartless seek after hearts. We saw Hollow Bastion’s door in the place where Sora and Riku fought. Otherwise you’re understanding things pretty well. Really fun seeing you react to the series’ confusion.

If there is one thing that I can offer as advice for notes like these, it is this; Take what you see as literal. These secret notes are not speaking in riddles or metaphors. It's all very much supposed to be taken at face value. yeah, something that's worth noting that makes things kinda... more confusing than they have to be... is the fact that both Heartless and Nobodies have ironic names. A Heartless is pretty much just a collapsed heart, while a Nobody is the empty shell of a body left behind when the heart is taken. basically, Heartless have no body, and Nobodies are heartless.

As a child i understood probably a bit more of this game than i should have. I think at the time it was easier for me to make all the connections between the various abstract bs contained therein. Having grown up, this series definitely gives me a headache, but i absolutely love them to death. The Realm of Light is the Realm, where most of the worlds exist such as the Disney worlds. The Realm of Darkness is a deep and dark cave, where those go that are swallowed by the darkness. The remains of swallowed worlds are also found here. One entrance to this realm is the "End of the World" of Kingdom Hearts 1. The Realm in Between is simply the borderline between those two realms. But there are a few worlds existing here and keeping a balance between light and dark.

Basicly, what he explained in the final report, when a heart get stole by a heartless, the body, who is still animated by the soul, disappear to exist in another world. So two versions of you exist in two different world ; the heartless and the ''mere shell'' of the person who lost his heart to which he gave the name, at the end of the reports, ''Nobody''. So basicly he explains that when you lose your heart to the darkness two beings are created ; a Heartless and a Nobody. With the information of the last report I suggest you to re-read the dialogues of the secret boss PS : the reason why the Nobody is neither light or darkness (this is the part where you've lost it) is because light and darkness comes from the heart. Furthermore, since they don't posess a heart because the Heartless ''counterpart'' took it, it cannot have an affiliation to light nor darkness.
