🙋🏼♀️🕊. I had a small kiln . BUT I used it to fire small Angels 👼🏻 and fairies 🧚♀️ . I think it is made for small things ..because small things are hard to handle in a large things .. some folks use it for jewelry as well. I enjoy watching you explore your crafting. Take care.🕊. Blessings.🕊🕊🕊🕊

Man, your event prep is reminding me that I have to crank out the most popular product I have before the end of the month. Con crunch is real. Good luck with Finders Keepers! I'm genuinely intrigued to see what sold the most on your end. I know from experience there's the stuff you're anticipating and other stuff that you wipe out of very quickly because it wasn't expected. The shelf duck situation for example.

I empathise in the decision fatigue! I‘be been trying to overcome it by randomising the first colour of a palette then using colour theory to bring in the next 2-3 colours and then committing to just following through with that scheme. I’m working on smacking out the next 8 or so palettes and then just *doing* it 😬

Wooow the flowering gum, the mushroom dishes and the paint palettes are just stunning! (So is everything else though, let's be real) It's so beautiful to see all the pieces together. You could make a version of the paint palette dish without the side flowers, with only the center decorated, and then sell it a little cheaper than the fully decorated. It would allow you to make more pieces in time, offer more choices for the buyers and create more purchasing opportunities to those who fall in love with that flower series and want a larger collection.

Hi Shelby I’ve just started my own studio and business but in enamelling not pottery, similar in a way but completely different. I have my first country town market in September so it was interesting to hear you talk about your decision burn out dilemma’s and trying to second guess what people may like , as I’m going through exactly that now. I’m sharing a stall (thank goodness) but I’m aiming for minimum of a hundred mugs and tumblers plus whatever plates and bowls, pet dishes etc I can turn out. Unlike you I can only fire 1 piece at a time but firing time is between 2 - 5 minutes depending on the size of the piece. I hope the finders keepers market was a success for you. 😊

Never get rid of the little kiln, you will always have test firing, you might want to get a better little kiln sometime. Also with the little kiln you can do short runs, also you might be packing the little kiln too efficiently, it might impact the heat flow. Try one with a little more room between each. The heat from each item might be affecting the ones around it

Hi Shelby, I have a question for you. I adore kangaroos. So much so that I used one when naming my Knitting & Crochet Group "The Stitch-a-roos." Then I drew up a roo character logo for the group binder covers. She's a cutie, busy knitting and with a pouch full of yarn and yarn crafting tools. My question is do you think you will be adding a roo to your animal characters? I love your koala and wombat and I'd love to see a roo in your same style. 🩷✌️🧶🦘

Is it that your little kiln gets too hot to quickly that causes cracking? Perhaps it needs some TLC when you have a spare moment after all the years of hard work. Also best of luck this weekend with finders Keepers
@ShelbySherritt Жыл бұрын
I actually think the opposite, I think its heating too slow at each point because the bigger kiln runs a little faster! I think by having slower temps for longer it stays hotter for longer at each of those moments!

This was so interesting to watch Shelby! Thank you for sharing it with us. When you have all the molds on the table, are there multiple versions of the same molds or is each one different? I noticed how many of them are the same size and shape grouped together.
@ShelbySherritt Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes of course!! I am so happy to share these. Sometimes they are easier because I feel like I am kind of taking you along for the day. So some of them are the same. I was pouring my own moulds there where I had designed them myself and made them myself so I have multiples of the same design. I pour those together because they have the same setting times!

You've done amazing Shelby in the short couple of months you had to prep for two events! Good luck and I hope you sell lots at Finders Keepers this weekend, maybe even sell out. 🤞 Out if curiosity are you able to run both your kilns at once or do you need to let one finish a firing before starting the other? 🤔
@prcervi Жыл бұрын
i'm wondering if the issue with the small kiln might be intended use, yes it's a kin that's made to fire ceramics at most all temperatures but it's small and not made for larger pieces and as far as i've seen in my own practice not made for frequent use big kilns also, as far as i've seen tend to do a steadier cool down
