I've sunk hundreds of those anchor bolts into concrete using the drill bit you labeled "wrong". That shank with the grooves in it is called SDS style. It fits perfectly in an SDS chuck and locks in place. I know you're a Harbor Freight fan and they do sell SDS drills and bits. I know it's too late for this project but next time you'll know.

Jason I love your content. I'm retired New Homebuilder Started as speck builder that's speculating on profit. All my years the laser was one of my favorites saving time and labor you could layout alone with the laser. With a transit it takes two men, So look at your savings on one man's wages you eliminate, Also your accuracy is unmatched. The sky tracker was next it took all the heavy lifting out of the job it was big investment but one of my best. Those were my two favorites the laser and the lift.

Way to go Kids. Will be so worth all the work. I watched a man build out a Grain Silo. He pot his square Bathroom in the middle. Then the kitchen on the side of bathroom wall. So the pluming was all together. Had loft bedroom. He put a Skylight in top. He used pallet wood on walls of Bathroom. . I love that because they are all shades of lumber. He put French doors into it. Let's a lot of natural light. Get one where you can just open one door or both. He also pot a window in bathroom up high enough so they could shower and not be seen naked. That let in natural light in from the French door in to the bathroom. Work ihe ladder to loft . Lay board flat, much easier on your feet. Chet fixed ours that way. Used 2X6 on the bottom 3 them on up with 2X4. And don't to straight up. Pull the bottom about a Foot . Makes it at a slant. I am 71 now and I climb it every night. Chets Breathing machine makes a Spuging noise if it don't stay tight to his skin. After 5 years and trying so ma ny ear plugs I sent up there so I could get rest. It has only 7 steps.

You should never use a 2x6 for decks. This should have been done with a 2 ply 2x10 or 2x12. There's no way that span is legit for that beam. You're going to have a bunch of sag or maybe failure with all the weight you're putting on it. I'd recommend you calculate the weight you are putting on there and consult a beam span chart.

Good to see that you’re under way with your new project! I’m old enough to be your father and then some and I find it easy to see things that I would do differently but, I am not the one who is doing it! Everyone has to learn from actually doing things and learning from their mistakes. I see no need to insulate under your deck! You are going to have an elevated floor inside your bin, so all you need to do is put your foil backed foam and insulation on top of the deck inside the bin as you build your subfloors. Place your PCV waste lines and conduits in place before you finish the floor. You’ll be able to access your conduits and sewage lines easily . I also hope that you use your joists even if they are on 24” centers. Best of luck and looking forward for your progress!
@McCuneWindandSolar
@McCuneWindandSolar 10 ай бұрын
yea but some times us old timers need to help. He has 16 foot Spans for those Beams. It will not hold up to the weight of the Silo and all the weight he will be putting on top of them. He needs to either dig more footings or change out the beams with 16 in beams. or put more footings and go with 8 inch beams tripled up. Since he is going to frame the inside of the Silo. He would be better off marking out the diameter of the Silo foot print for where he is going to place it on the deck. and then place footings right below the Silo, and run either 4x4 or 6x6 from footings up. and he can then secure the silo to the post making it solid. and then the only place he would have to insulate is the silo. Or better yet Build a Concrete pad where the silo is going to set and the first Ring can be his crawlspace under his sub floor. He can either have a door from inside the silo or from the out side. and build the deck a round the out side of the silo. He can Weld flanges to the silo to mounding points for the deck. There are much better ways of doing something that will be safe and last a long long time. what he is doing is Wasting money. He will be putting that heavy silo on top of that deck and that is alot of weight.
