i'm not sure what you're saying. do you mean jeff is who he is as a player because of the guitar he chooses? that's just stupid. he has used many others. as for strats..regardless of their price, they are all 3 single coils, a floating bridge, and a 25 and 1/2inch scale on a solid body, and sound like a strat. i love 'em, got a room full of them. leo is a hero of mine, but if you think jeff owes his dues to the guitar he's using..well you're off your head.

I'm a serious devotee of Donal Lunny, the writer of this song: It is one of his finest. A memorial piece for another musician and friend of Lunny and many other Irish contemporary musicians, it is so soulful it almost makes the listener want to cry. I'm also a long-time fan of JB. He does an exquisite job here of capturing the deep spirit not only of the song but of Irish music. He's joyously mimimicing the sound of wild Irish bellows blown bagpipes, wooden flute and and the soaring fiddle of the original. I've listed to and watched a dozen or so versions of JB playing this song: This one is the most beautiful and touching. The song was originally played and recorded at the 1987 Sean O Riarda Retrospective, O Riarda being the man who most kept Irish music alive in the 20th century. This was put on on Lunny's first album/CD after the final breakup of the groups Planxty and the Bothy Band.: "Donal Lunny", which unfortunately is hard to find. The O Riarda Retrospective Lunny & Co. session, with Declan and other gorgeous songs and musicianship, is available here on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHXNdZuNfq9kkLM

Just when you think he's going to fall off, he stays right on in there with every note, holding you on the edge of your seat and yet somehow you're in a total trance. The maestro has struck yet again? This should be played at every funeral.

There is only one Jeff Beck his mastery of the guitar has been evolving since he first picked one up. Jeff has literally made the guitar an extension of his soul his voice. This man has been an innovator Master Craftsman of music for six decades. There are very few people that reach this level of virtuosity. Jeff is constantly raising the bar for musicians. He is a gift from God and I truly believe he doesn't realize how gifted he is. He is a very humble private person for those reasons is why I vote Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix as the two greatest guitarist ever end of story. Much love and respect.

RE: Debates on: the importance of the gear. Jeff was amazing with a single pick-up Esquire, a Tele, various Les Pauls, various Strats, amps ranging from Vox to Uni-Vox, Fender and Marshall. His tone is superb through hi-powered amps w/ 4 x 12s, Bassmans, Champs or Super Champs. HE is what sounds amazing. The gear just transmits his creative signal. One of Jeff's drummers told me Jeff would take a new guitar out of the box, plug in and play. He didn't even tune; he's bend the strings into tune.

I refer you to my very first comment that sparked this exchange: "It's actually both the guitar and player." which is my way of saying you're not to sound great without great equipment. And you're not going to be great with great equipment unless you know how to play it. I don't know why that was so controversial. Great players can coax a lot of tone from inferior instruments (blood from a stone) but there is a limit. I doubt we really disagree with each other. Cheers. I'm out.

sell some kid an srv strat and a twin and he'll come back and trade it in two weeks because he doesn't sound like stevie...why doesn't he sound like stevie?
@rabbittraps
@rabbittraps 12 жыл бұрын
what are we talking about?...tone? then it's the guitar, the amp, the lead, the age of the strings, the humidity of the room, the density of the atmosphere...etc. or are we talking musicality?...then it's the player. are we on this page because of jeffs tone? or are we here because of the way he phrases his scales, the emotion he creates melodicaly? both..but considering the speakers we are hearing it on, it is VERY much the latter..........the player.
@janderson2000
@janderson2000 12 жыл бұрын
I disagree...Do you think Stevie Ray Vaughan's first two albums would be as good if he was playing a Line 6 digital processor and Ibanez guitar? Tone in integral to music and I don't discount the contributions of the master crafters like Leo.
