While Rome's hostility to Turks dated back to late antiquity particularly against Tengrist Oghuric entities like the Bulgars, Avars, Huns, the arrival of Seljuks marked the begin of a new front against a distinct Muslim powerhouse conquering their way into Anatolia

Turks indeed had a decisive role in triggering historical major events like the Migration Period, Crusades, shaping the history of Balkans, Islamization of Northern India, Age of Discovery as well as ending the Middle Ages with the conquest of Constantinople, fall of the Roman Empire.

The Armenian City of Ani (aka "City of 1,001 Churches") is a footnote mention here, but it was formidable & significant, and its ruins are vast. With Silk Road Wealth, Ani had a population of 100,000. Armenia, and its capital Ani, was absorbed into the Byzantine Empire in 1045; just 19 years later, the Byzantines blundered it away, in 1064. There might not've been a Battle of Manzikert if the Byzantines had reinforced & supported Christian Armenia; instead, they expanded their empire deep into Armenia, and blundered it away to the Turks. A Byzantine army was defeated, at the walls of Ani, in 1042. A few years later, the Armenian King was seized at a Peace Conference, and under duress abdicated, ceding Armenia to the Byzantines in 1045.

The Turks too , the great warriors of the steppes , were almost haughty in the assumption that they inherited the jihad fighting spirit of the tradition and carried it half - way into Europe . Turko-Persia in Historical Perspective p.94 The Seljukian Turks had had some great warriors ; the period of their power was during the eleventh and twelfth centuries ; they had taken the place of the Arabs as the great Moslem power of the east , though an Arab caliph still nominally reigned at Baghdad . The Divine Aspect of History Volume 2 p.324 In the west the Seljuq invasion of Asia Minor began the process which was to make it the modern land of the Turks and the base from which the greatest Islamic empire of the past 600 years would expand into southeast Europe . MacEachern, S., 2010. The new cultural atlas of the Islamic world. p.32.

Arab dominance did not, however, continue in the political sphere, and one may describe the premodern history of Islam as falling into three periods of political regime. Until the tenth cen- tury, most regions of Islamdom were under the rule of Arabs; in the 10th and 11th centuries, many regions came under the rule of Persians; and from the 11th until the 19th century, almost all areas of the Muslim world were ruled by ethnic Turks or Mongols, whose dominance continued in the Middle East until World War I and the abolishment of the Ottoman Empire in 1924. For nearly a millennium in the Persianate world, the upper echelons of society were seen as divided along ethnic lines into Turks, who constituted the military and ruling class, and Tajiks, Persians, or non-Turks, who were the administrators, accountants, tax-collectors, and land owners. The division was viewed as natural and not unfair because Turks and Mongols were considered ethnically suited to military exploits because of their sturdiness, fierce nature, ability to endure hardship, and superior skills in horsemanship and archery. Even in contexts where Turks did not make up the bulk of the military, rul- ers often used troops belonging to foreign ethnic groups because of their military skills, internal solidarity, lack of attachment to the local populace, and direct allegiance to the ruler. The Fatimids in Egypt (969-1171) employed both troops who belonged to the Berber Kutama tribal confederation from North Africa and "Suda- nese" troops from sub-Saharan Africa. The 14th-century historian Ibn Khaldun argued, reflecting primarily on the Berber dynasties of North Africa, that there was a strong relationship between the life of political regimes and ethnic groups. Tribal groups from outside settled regions have much stronger ethnic solidarity than settled peoples, and this enabled them to work as efficient military units, conquering territories and establishing new dynasties. The settled life of the conquerors, however, corrupted them and made them lose their ethnic solidarity in just a few generations, and this made them vulnerable to new tribal invaders. Al-Jahiz is not the only medieval writer who viewed the Turks as the best soldiers. Nizam al-Mulk (the great Seljuk vizier) and Qay Qavus Ibn Iskandar (one of the last rulers of the North Iranian Ziyarid dynasty) both authored works of Persian advice literature or mirrors for princes, predating Machiavelli’s writing by about six centuries. Both of these authors extol the martial virtues of the Turks, stating that no group or race is more courageous, loyal, or skilled at war. They argue that a portion of the army must be composed of them, stating that thousands of young Turks must be recruited and trained in the ruler’s palace and promoted based on merit.

I think their war methods were counter to Romans; that's has nothing to do with bravery (ofc warriors are not cowards by default); archery from the horseback was not something that everyone could do. Short distances and desne mountain terrain in medditerenean sea countries were not the optional enviroment for horse archers, Roman were spenting their times on siege methods; ofc romans were using horse archer methods on the sea ,Ballistas-Greek fire. Ballista chariots were a simila method for byzantines (weak against a massive dense unit of horse archers)! In ancient war history it's not about bravery; it's many times about tactics for example macedonia phalanx was more effective against normal phalanx; normal phalanx were more dense and u could protect long range foot archers inside them; against swordmen normal phalanx was much more effective because of range AND armor and also u had more mobility to hide your men! Imagine now the difference; Romans were facing only the macedonians not the Greeks in general, south states were allies of Rome, while persians were facing the greeks! The Roman school of fighting were not good against multiple horseweapons; they were using mercenaries to cover their disadvantages; swords and axes are not very effective vs horses. Ofc I dont think in medieval or ancients times had the luxury of simulation-accurate weapon analysis. Sword-axe-pillum are great against infantry with low mobility; macedonia pikes were forcing macedonians to have less armor, very bad method against: Pillum-block the front with big shields-attack with mobility on the flanks; imagine the death ratio from the pilum; the death ratio of unarmored macedonian swordmen on the flanks
@AlexAnastaso
@AlexAnastaso Жыл бұрын
It's always about the weapon methods; OFC TURKS were brave warriors; I dont disagree with that, but they came there with an 'antiMETA' tactic, Romans were fighting Germans-Greeks-jews- fortresses in the majority of their history; the weapons u need for these jobs are not fuctioning well against multiple 'horseweapons'. Medieval and ancient empires fell because they were using the same META at all borders. Romans could beat persians with resources + allies; but they could not DOMINATE them

They should really make an animation for the horses, at least 6 different animations for when they impact a battle line and are struggling to keep on their feet and balance themselves. Would make Total War games a little more realistic, and with the much needed help of modders, the next Rome or Medieval Total War would be insane. These games need more variety in animations.

Bir MÜSLÜMAN TÜRK olarak çok beğendim videoyu. Bir kaç eksik var ama başarılı. Eksikleri anlatıyorum ; 1. Alparslan Mısır'ı almak için gidiyordu. Bizans'ın ordu hazırlayıp geldiğini öğrendiğinde ordusunu ikiye böldü ve bir kısmını alarak Bizans ile savaşa girdi , geriye kalanlar Mısır a gitti. 2.
