100% agree the fertility crisis is closely linked to the housing crisis. What a mess.

You’re correct. We don’t need each other. But when we get older, it would be nice to take care of one another instead of going to a senior care center. East Asians of Indian descent, they never tell people how often these couples cheat on each other.

I am an architect and I have watched construction go into a depression every 10 to 12 years over and over again. Construction and planning for it grinds to a halt every time. This economy is not conducive to someone settling down and raising a family. A friend of mine has a brother who is an architect and he told people that he never had children because he never had steady employment. This downturn is going to be horrific because we put it off by pumping up the economy during lockdowns. When construction does come back, it comes back as a smaller industry that has lost much of its' skilled workforce, so we are starting over in a sense every 10 years. Bubbles make money for the top 1%, but it slowly guts and destroys our economy. The best lines of work are finance, insurance and speculative or parasitic industries.

Yes, the lockdowns created another problem. Thanks for reporting from the housing industry. Architecture is a very challenging degree.

For me it's financial. Life is very expensive now in Justin Trudeau's Canada. Also the family court system is biased against men. So if I get a woman pregnant or get married, I'm fucked as a man. I had a close call where an ex-situationship of mine had her period like 13-15 days late. I wouldn't have any problems embracing co-parenting with her, even if she wasn't the love of my life or anything, if life was far more affordable and if the family court system wasn't so hostile towards men. Having a son or daughter with her would have been nice and would have built character in myself. Given me something to live for. But with the present environmental conditions, I would be terrified for that child's future if we ended up having a child. And obviously my life would have been ruined too. lmfao. But that kid would have been fucked.

The court system is BLIND to gender, and whoever earns the most will be ordered to pay the most in child support. While men typically out-earn women since women pay a "Motherhood Penalty" (fewer hours worked = fewer promotions and less income), in the case where a Woman earns the same/equal to her husband, she does PAY child support.

When you meet a person and fall in love it’s very exciting, AT FIRST, especially sexually, but also on a personal friendship level. But this excitement dissipates over time. And something more is needed to sustain the relationship over the years, which can amount to decades. Like you were saying, people needed each other more. The relationship could not be sustained just by liking someone a lot and enjoying having sex with them. Because these two things alone do not last. In the past a relationship was sustained by more than just liking someone and being turned on. If you don’t have something more than sexual attraction and mutual fondness, a relationship will not go the distance. In the past, marriage was more than just liking someone. The contract of marriage was like a business, where two people were able to sustain each other, and the children that they produced. It was an existential necessity that kept two people alive. Sustaining a roof over their heads and food in their mouths. And in the course of that mutual effort to stay alive, the attraction between the two people could ebb and flow. Maybe the sexual attraction would become less at times, but then it would resurge, in the course of taking care of the business of life. The family unit was more than just two people “liking” each other. Two people liking each other is not enough. The relationship of the past served mutual functions. Today these functions have been co-opted out by the “welfare state.” The government is taking the place of what the family used to do. In the past it was a family responsibility to take care of the members of the family. Now that unit has been broken down. Someone will claim that it is not their responsibility to take care of their parents, their children, their brothers and sisters. We are all becoming disconnected individuals, set adrift into meaninglessness. “You should not have to take care of your parents, because you have your own life to live,” is what people say. And the next thing you know they will be saying: “you should not have to take care of your children, because you have your own life to live.” But, if your life is NOT your children, and your life is NOT your parents, then just what IS your life? (Not that “family” is the only course in life to take. It was just the most common one in the past. The single life was the minority.) (In times like we’re living in now, to be destitute, penniless or mentally incapable, no one has to take you in. It’s the governments responsibility. And when the government takes responsibility, they are going to dictate to you how you must live. Not the best situation for a free society where people want to be autonomous.) Not that being single and alone HAS to be meaningless, but the family unit provided meaning. It’s more of a challenge to find meaning on your own as an individual. But not impossible. (And, I am not maligning it as a course to take, because it seems to be the course that I am taking, as a single, childless, man.) (But there is family, and there is community. And both family and community are being downgraded.)

Yeah, you just had to endure tyranny and mass murder and the gulags to 'achieve' the utopian dream of living in a shabby ,collectivist, rabbit hutch. If you decided to save and build your own home the 'caring' communists would have put you in an asylum. The kulaks would have disagreed with your summary of communism as would the ghosts of famine victims and the 'liquidated'.

If socialism is such a success, why didn't people tunnel under the Berlin Wall West to East hmm? Why don't you live in North Korea? Why isn't China a desirable domicile for you? Why does the capitalist West have such a strong pull for...'socialists' and those who loathe it?

Fertility rate is world wide. Testosterone is low world wide. He do not fight wars like before. Males in prison (survival mode) have higher Testosterone. Also, unregulated sex market value where modern women only go after top 20% of men within the community.

Completely disagree. There are happy families in impoverished sub-Saharan villages and crowded Latin American favellas and here we have citizens of the prosperous West all claiming that economic pressures are preventing them from settling down with someone else. Love would find a way through money troubles. But romantic love is now very rare. Fifty years of feminism has convinced the majority of women that they deserve better than the majority of men.

You are speaking of people who NEED each other. The issue today is people who make their own money living in urban environments no longer NEED each other, and today's people want to feel ATTRACTED. Educated women find it difficult to be attracted to men with the same or fewer resources (where resources could be $, education, status). There are now only 2 college educated men for 3 college educated women. Attraction is the issue. You may enjoy the videos I made about the decline in fertility based on the book by fertility researcher Mads Larsen.
