Louise Penny, Ann Cleeves and Agatha Christie collection will stay. My first cook book, too. Atomic habits will stay, until I HAVE atomic habits 😁. And some books, which make me laugh, have to be on hand, too. Our libraries aren’t like yours… I’m now proud member of a Danish library and can’t wait to visit it at Easter time again…

I'm a former librarian, from a family of librarians.... after going through my mum's book collection, I swore I wouldn't do that to my son. When we moved from Canada to France, all my hardcovers were donated, unless they were signed by the author. Now I read on a Kindle for my eyes, and bonus - no books! It was one of the toughest declutters that I did before moving! This is a tough one!

I read almost exclusively on Kindle now, if the ebook is available. However, if I adore the book, I buy a used copy, preferably hardcover to add to my collection. I guess I’m kind of stuck between book worlds. I read about half in fantasy and those books are very large and I only have them on Kindle. I do borrow ebooks from my library too.

When my mom was downsizing her book collection, I became the keeper of two books that I will never get rid of. A copy of David Copperfield that was given to my great grandmother in 1898 and a bible that was given to my great great grandmother on her 18th birthday. They both need some restoration work but I haven’t found anyone to do it yet. 🇨🇦

Your example of the Jeeves books is so valuable - it’s OK to break up a collection, it’s OK to keep one book you love most. I think a lot of people view books as a collection and assume since they love books they should keep them all.

Thank you for the motivation!!! What you said about starting to declutter and others will get on board seemed impossible but lo and behold I convinced my husband to clean out 1 box in the garage and he found some papers he really wanted to keep but he got rid of the rest of the box. In the end we decluttered 4 boxes, a chair and a pressure washer that needed work (free on FB market place). Going to continue by taking it in smaller bites one shelf at a time:) Go Us 🎉🎉🎉

To paraphrase Dolly Gallagher Levi (from the movie), money is (and I add books are) like manure, they don't do any good unless you spread it around. Your hair style looks fabulous today, very wispy and textured. I let go of most.of my books when almost everything became available on the internet. And I have grown to love audiobooks when I am in the kitchen, bathtub or elevating my legs above my heart. Wow! Your husband letting go of books is a testament to your great example. Good for your son to take responsibility for the legacy and I am so impressed that your daughter met Margaret Atwood. Sometimes we miss the connection that books are extensions of real people. Same with recipes, now that you made me think of it. Rah, rah, rah for the whole family. And congratulations on almost 93K subs. I hope you top 100K for the new year and a fresh start in a new place.

I still have my childhood books. I’ve decluttered thru the years and just have my favorites in one box. My kids read them and I am keeping for future grands. They will go as they age out of them. It’s so hard to let books go; I love to read. I’ve tried electronic readers but there is nothing like holding a book.

I agree, too, BUT I’ve integrated electronic books now: easy to read in the dark without glasses (you can change the size of the letters easily )or other light, after 8 minutes without going on it darkens automatically if you fall asleep. And they don’t need space, easy to take with me to holidays. But my 'besties' will always stay with me…

I loved bookshops and books from the day my dad took me to the second hand department in James Thin, Edinburgh, to buy schoolbooks. I had a few books of my own before then. Decluttering our home has been no problem recently, apart from the books which I still love to use for reference (in some cases) and also everything to do with my hobbies and crafts. Now in my 70s it is really important to tackle these two areas. I inherited a lot from my parents after they passed and that was the start of me struggling to let go of things which were not really of my choosing! This winter is a good time for me to have another go! Thank you for your lovely inspiring videos!

As I told you I lost my sister last July and I had to clear away a whole house of clothes, utensils, small appliances etc. Regarding books (we have a lot of them me and my sister) I was in luck because our Vocational Senior High School newly build has a brand new library and study room so I was able to donate a lot of educational and fiction books. They are going to start a reading club this November and I am thinking of joining them. She also had a lots of yarn, being a Knitting freak and I donated them to the Women's Penitentiary Institute. What a nice surprise seeing you on Saturday! 😊You are so good at decluttering, especially sentimental things. Books and stuffed animals are for me, the most difficult items to move on. I have donated quite a few books in the last year and have some to go to the resale shop. I have a whole set of classic childhood books that I loved and my daughter wants them when she has a larger place and shelves for them. Until then I can reread and enjoy them. I too have a Rogets Thesaurus from 1965 when I was in 8th grade. We didnt have much money and my mother couldn’t understand why the teacher insisted we have a copy. I have used it so many times over the years that the covers are loose and ragged but I love the book and find it useful still. Thanks for the Saturday edition of decluttering and Danish Hygge. ❤ 🖖LLAP

Hi Diane, I went through all my photos and got a large shoebox, made some cardboard dividers and made sections, such as each child's name, Us, holiday to USA, Home, Friends, Family etc. I threw out lots of doubles and photos of nothing such as a view from goodness knows where? ha ha. I found if you put all the photos of your child in one section by their name, you don't have to try and work out what year it was taken, etc. I then took all photos out of albums, decluttered the albums and only have one shoebox in my whole house (which holds hundreds of photos) takes up no room and I have it easily accessible to view when I want to. The only other photos I have are some in frames on a shelf and the rest of larger photos are in a plastic sleeve with the shoe box. Jo from Australia xxx
