Looking good. You made a very down to earth easy to inspire video. It was really nice to listen/watch, I tend to listen more than watch, vision thing, then I pause or rewatch if it is vision/eyecandy heavy. I cleaned up my spices late summer when I discovered one and then most were out of date though recently bought. I went back to cooking my favorite Indian foods from scratch, instead of other cuisine. I now buy mine from my Indian grocers (online) so keep them in canning jars with special storage lids and label them more for others than myself. I use a lot of different spices each and every day so they don't go stale. I try hard to use up other things before buying new, though somethings like canned organic veggies, tomatoes, fruits are kept in stock for 2 months in case. I do need to go through my baking/breakfast and tea/coffee shelves.

I expect tackling that cupboard feels really cathartic. I confess my food cupboards are very organised. No one dares to mess with the system. 😬 I have spice racks fitted to the inside of cupboard doors. A good use of extra space. I line just about every cupboard shelf and some drawers with wallpaper, jazzy wallpaper in some of them. Saves a laborious cleaning job from sticky condiment residue. I have been using little terracotta discs soaked in water and placed inside containers that I keep sugars and dried fruit in to keep them moist. Bought mine off amazon. I too need to do a lot of clearing out and reorganisation around the house which I’ll eventually get round to doing. 😊

I don't think I've ever seen the inside of cabinets being black before, especially if the outside color is lighter. I'm so used to having white inside the cabinets. I would think it would be hard to see things in the back with the darker insides, no?

Oh dear Elliot. Next time do one shelf at a time starting from the top down. Use a damp cloth only- don’t waste time with the vacuum cleaner (use less washing up liquid in your cleaning bowl, and spray less product it only ends up needing more rinsing otherwise it leaves a film that attracts more dirt). By cleaning 1 shelf at a time you don’t end up with the overwhelming mess as you clean and sort. Have appropriate bins for rubbish and recycling available, and a box to put donations in. Because you’re doing one shelf at a time you can clean in between other tasks in short bursts* Also one shelf at a time means if you have to stop for any reason (unexpected emergency) you don’t feel overwhelmed at the thought of coming back to the unfinished task. *as a now blind person who used to be a cleaner before ill health made me unable to continue and then sight loss doubled down I do my Spring Clean year round as part of my regular housework. So each room has a daily task, a weekly task, a monthly (deep cleaning) task. The daily tasks are cleaning spills as they happen and keeping tidy. The weekly tasks are total vacuum through etc. and each room has its own day of the week. Monthly tasks (cleaning cupboards, steam cleaning carpets and soft furnishings, etc) are done in the the room on its designated day, and split into 4 tasks. Eg my kitchen cupboards are cleaned in 4 zones so I only spend 20 minutes on the deep clean of each section plus the 10 or so minutes on my weekly clean plus the few minutes (less than 5) on daily kitchen tasks… it means I never feel overwhelmed. In theory my home now never needs a spring clean and I don’t panic if I get I’ll and can’t keep up with my housework, or if I have guests with little warning, or if I go away for a holiday as I know I will catch up without impacting my health, and that my home never gets totally dirty.

Good job Elliot. I have a pull out pantry which has a cupboard above. Don't know why but I always get rid of original packaging & put cereals, spices, pasta etc in ceramic jars , glass or metal containers. Love & best wishes for a Happy & healthy New Year to the both of you.

Hi I cleaned my cupboards today I can't understand why you would decant all the spices out of jars into other jars and then throw away the jars did you put a date on them
@kasiapetruk6730
@kasiapetruk6730 20 күн бұрын
@@annescott6137 spices have generally long usable dates and if that is something you use regularly you go through them before “best before” date arrives. I agree that you could keep the original containers and refill it if you buy spices and herbs that don’t come in glass mini jars. Because if you do that is kind of pointless, just more mini jars. But I also decanted mine to unify the look and the storage of spices and make it more minimalist. It can also be adjusted if you for example stop using particular spice, so you can change the label to say something else which is hard to do on an original packaging. I did keep two or three original ones though, and I refill them with spices bought on market (something like a farmers market) that come in plastic disposable pouch/tiny bag. I found it is better and cheaper to purchase spices that don't come in a glass jar. So I don't buy them in a supermarket but more like wholesale situation.

If you throw away everything as soon as possible, you don't need to do that. I never have to declutter anything as there is no " build-up "

I couldn't believe you didn't wash out your new spice rack 🤮🤮. You're concerned about out of date items, yet you didn't put expiry dates on the labels of the new jars🤷‍♂️

They get used. We didn’t have to throw any spices away. If you know you don’t use your spices and regularly let them get out of date then feel free to add dates to your labels.

@ElliotNMatt I'm not trying to be facetious, but I thought it might have been helpful to someone else who, unlike you, will make sure they use up all of their spices before they go out of date

Wow how dirty were your shelves - your kitchen is almost new - that was one mess to sort - my cupboards never get as messy but I’m always wiping bits as I go. The pull out section with some of your sauces and oils is always a great idea - but check as some of that stuff might need to be in a fridge once opened - like the goose fat. Also I know you are very keen on your health - please throw those 1 calorie oil/fat sprays away - you are basically spraying plastic & chemicals on your food - they are dreadful for bowel health. Just using a little good quality olive oil or pure butter (I keep a French rock salted butter for cooking - much healthier for you both honestly. ❤❤❤
