In today's video, let's tackle some things that were long overdue! declutter and reset before the new year to have a fresh start (even though it really doesn't matter when it's done, as long as it gets done).

That law preventing perfectly fine fruit from coming in is a bit sad tbh. Bumps and stuff are normal.

I wish we had one of those places that you took usable items for others to take. We have pop up events like that, but not on an ongoing basis. It always feels good to get those decluttered items out of your house & to a donation spot or trash/recycling spot. Enjoyed the video.

Thank you! Yes, I am so happy I found that place. I think it belongs to a church but is outdoors for everyone to use. Maybe churches have things like that more often? But there are definitely not enough and I am sure there are so many cities and countries with almost none of these sharing economy infrastructures. Btw, I went there again after recording the video because I had more things and almost everything I had brought was already gone! So it is indeed used well 😊

In the town I live in, it's normal for people to put boxes of free things out on the sidewalk outside their house for others to take. I love it, I've found a lot of nice things and also gotten rid of unwanted things easily. But I've also lived in places where neighbors consider doing that littering and will get annoyed. So, it depends on where you live. (Also, it doesn't snow or even rain frequently where I live, so that's another factor.)

I live in an apartment and we have a bench by the elevator on the main floor for this. Take something/leave something. Other places have a table in the community room

Hi Linda, try to talk with your neighbours, local community and make one of it close to you :) This is how those places poped up in my city (and l'd definitly say l'm not leaving in the most sharing/cooperative society ..) But despite of that, this is how it was - people want it and did it together, noone give it to them, neither landed one night like U.F.O. ;) Neighbours start to talk, spread the idea via social media, talked with local administration and institutions, ask for help local NGOs and made few of those points, know as a: give box. One is simillary to this - made from wooden tool house, 2 smaller are made from old wardrobes/closets. Folks and talks with local community, admin, institutions are crucial l guess. People - as it would be hard to do it by yourself, local administration- to make everything legal (f.ex.choosing the right place for it), ngo's and local institutions can help you by giving their space for free, or maybe some small dotation or with writting a project for that or maybe rent some tools. And the last but not least - COMMUNITY. To put the givebox in it's place is one thing. But as it will be your shared idea, your shared work to make it - also responsibility for it will be yours. That mean shifts and checks if everything works as it mean to, keep it clean, small repairs if needed, etc. The more people are in it, the easier and afortable it is. The more people want it to work, and see it as a common good, the less problems you will get with those places/points as most of them will be trying to keep it in good condition, tidy looking and use it in proper way. I think you can say, more such a place will be accepted in your area - better and longer it will be working there. Good luck! :) Thank you Lia for your videos and for making this space and community

Great to see more of the challenges of decluttering sustainably acknowledged! Too often creators just act like it's so simple to declutter but I can totally relate to the stuff accumulating that's 'decluttered' but not yet out the house because you want it to go to the best place etc and challenges that crop up from not having access to a car etc as well.

We have some places like that in the US, like Misfits food, also some local stores give away food at the end of the day. But there still is a lot of waste which is sad. Also I just took a bunch of clothes to give away to a donation place. Feels good🙂 Always enjoy your content.

Hi Lia, have you thought about selling the old phone & battery on eBay Kleinanzeigen? I do so even with broken Tech & other staff like particularly „special“ packaging which otherwise would likely end up in th landfill. There are some creative people/electronics lovers who really buy it. Even super old staff. For cheap though.

Are there any Electronic repair places where you live? Maybe a place like that would take your old phone to use it’s parts?

It is a little shed in my neighborhood organized by a church I think. People bring things they don't need anymore and put them on shelves. Then other people come, bring the things they don't need anymore and take something if there is something they want. It's a circular economy, sharing place like a secondhand shop but free😊

How does your family celebrate Christmas? How do you keep it to minimalism?
@ecofriendlia
@ecofriendlia Жыл бұрын
I think we celebrate pretty much like many other families in Germany. Just the three of us on the 24th (I know many countries and people don't really celebrate on Christmas eve) and then with way more family members on the 25th. We just try to give useful, thoughtful gifts and things people can use or eat... We also do secret Santa to minimize the overall amount of gifts 😊

Umm, I'm getting some green-washing red flags (or should I say orange flags) here. Pretty sure there isn't all that waste in orange production/sales around here, where they're abundantly grown (Portugal). I wonder if that is also the case with other orange exporters like Spain, Greece or Cyprus.
@ecofriendlia
@ecofriendlia Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! That is the information I git fron gebana but maybe I also understood something wrong. Their oranges are grown in Greece as far as I know. And at least the farmers get a lot more money when they can sell them to ear and not just to make juice 😊 which gebana makes possible with their way of importing them 😊
