I love this tip! Total beginner here, and i’ve always thought that we should have millions of moves under our sleeves. Cheers!

Excellent advice and coaching, thanks. I am on my second time through 3 months of beginner Lindy Hop/Swing/Solo Jazz. You learn as much thru the second time as the first, TBH. It is a time for trimming things in and learning the finer points to look smoother on the dance floor. What you present here makes a lot of sense once one finds one or a few regular dance partners who are as keen on advancing as you are. Some follows in my intermediate classes are giving much better feedback - it def takes a while to get mutual frame and connection with the follower.

Can't say I agree with the concept, but I did learn a new move that I didn't know about

Moves I cant live without? I dont know it counts as a move but GLIDING!

Oh, I'm shock form this cilp! It's so great! Thank you! I should try to minimalize my Lindy-moves. And i can't live with cross hand basic moves :)

Dancing with less moves is really good for forcing creativity, play, freestyle, and musicality. Cross hand moves are really nice to have. That is why we have at least one. It opens the doors to all the rest.

Glad you enjoyed this Evans. Keeping our basics limited has really helped us improve technique, speed, style, and explore footwork and rhythm changes in the long run.

Another great video! To answer your question: circular kicks give me breathing space to listen to the music, refocus attention on my partner, and check out current space (or lack thereof) on the dance floor. They’re barely a move - more like using “and” in a sentence to connect two thoughts - but I need ‘em!
@rhythmjuice5 жыл бұрын
Steven Smith When you say circular kicks, are you referring to lollies I wonder? I love how you mention “re-focus attention on your partner “, this is excellent!
@StevenSmith-nq5xe5 жыл бұрын
Yep, plain old lollies.

Can you be more specific? Scissor kicks?

Love the simple flowing moves. Keep it up. Excellent.

Thanks Paul! Moreover, I have updated our flow system and applied it to not only Lindy Hop, but Charleston, Balboa, Shag, and Basic Swing. It's all in the works right now, but the new system is super tight, more complete, and make the concept of flow insanely clear. Can't wait to roll it all out.

The Basket Turn! I like creating that going-downhill-swooning-feeling for my partner when I add a little "oomph" to it.

Knowing that Lindy Hop focuses on the bit of an accent on the "and 8", or counts of 8 (just like Paso Doble, a Latin dance, does), if we have to do a Lindy Hop routine, here is my favorite...... Swing out Circle in Open Position Tuck Turn Variation - The Applebees (you do a New york cross freeze fpr 2 beats after the rock step, both go into tuck spin and finish on 7 AND 8 in L-R open hold) Another Swing out Circle in Open Position - Another Swing out with Texas Tommy Ending Swing Out Ending in Semi-Open 40's Charleston in Place in Semi-Open (2x) 40's Charleston - Flying Charleston Variation (2x) 40's Charleston - Kick-Through Charleston (4 kick-throughs - so 4 double kicks in a row after the first "rock step kick"...) Freeze to Tuck Spin (both spin), then hold 5 6 7, and then on "and 8", do a rock or a swivel back to L-R open)

That was the funniest prologue, comparing clutter with toys, t-shirts, and TV gadgets. Made me laugh. Simplifying the "moves" was good, too.

@@rhythmjuice To have re-captured it and so smoothly and succinctly let it pour from your mouth was just perfect. Almost poetic. And, I could distinctly see all that clutter.
