As one of your “besties”😆 - a small suggestion to help with overwhelm later (as you actively move house in a few months), it might be useful - as you come across the items - to corall the things which are identifiable as yours/his into separate holding boxes marked with your names (or just your things into a marked box) that way you won’t have to sort through loads of stuff again come moving day

As someone who has been a recycler since April,1970 (Earth Day) it hurts my heart to see waste of any kind. HOWEVER,first things first,do whatever you need to do to declutter and simplify your life first, THEN set up the needed ways to be ecologically responsible. I was raised this way,for example,my childhood home had a long hallway from the kitchen to the garage and it was lined with eleven,kitchen size trash cans,labeled for plastic,aluminum,clear glass,brown glass,green glass,etc. you get the picture.( Boy do I miss my mom!) So this comes as second nature to me,but other areas in my life have been a LONG LEARNING CURVE! The important thing is to get started like you have and you’re doing great,proud of you!🥰

Don't feel bad about throwing away candy. Much of it is just chemical junk designed to be addictive. (Like high-fructose corn syrup. It is in everything!) You might also want to research the relationship between processed foods, additives and preservatives with ADHD. Especially Red Dye. And, Frugal Fit Mom does great organizing using Dollar Store containers. Her tips have helped me a lot.

A temporary solution for the candy rack slots where things fall through: cut pieces of cardboard from a box to fit the bottoms of each shelf and that will stop some fall through. You may still get some at the sides but not as much. Cheap and cheerful. :)

When you get to your new place, think about getting some cup hooks or Command hooks; It's really satisfying when you can hang things on the wall instead of having them on the floor. You're doing phenomenally well. PS get your son to help with his room. It's never too early for kids to learn how to take care of their own stuff.

I'm about halfway through but had to stop and say that you are doing wonderfully, Libby. Let the waste be a lesson and move on. Throw out what needs to be thrown out and then you can stay on top of it from here on out. Something I used to do regarding candy when my kids were young is throw everything out before the next holiday. Halloween candy had to be tossed before Christmas, and Christmas had to be tossed before easter. There were long gaps between some holidays but knowing things were handled before the next one came helped. Also, try having a designated gift bag, basket, or bowl that all candy has to be kept in so it doesn't wind up all over the house. And if you think your child simply has too much then thin it out. I cannot wait to see your new place when you move. I think it will be so nice for you to start fresh.

Two of us have ADHD, and a thing that helps us reduce food waste is to put our leftovers in clear glass containers or jars labeled with permanent marker on masking tape. I started with repurposed peanut butter and pasta sauce jars, but wide-mouth canning jars in various sizes are even more convenient. Any shelf-stable food that comes in plastic packaging also gets put in clear jars with masking tape labels. It's so easy to see what we have and how much is left! It's actually been most helpful for baking supplies. I can easily count how many cups of flour, sugar, etc. that I have before going shopping. I've saved so much money and thrown away so much less food this way!

Hi! Your closet looks beautiful. I take boxes (snack packaging, postage boxes, whatever is the right size) and cut them down for shelf storage to keep things contained. If I come across a better box I swap them out. Also cutting a cereal box flat and putting it over the slats might help with things falling through. I really dislike food waste too, and my inner critic is pretty mean. What helps me is if it's fresh, it decomposes and no harm done. If it's something like candy or not the healthiest option, I look at it as the trash already exists, and is me eating something not great for me worth it to put my body through? Like a ring pop wrapper is already here...whether I eat ir or not won't change that, and is my body better off without the sugar? Yep, so I trash it. Candy inflow with littles is hard, you just have to do the best you can for you and yours in the current stage of life and culture, and you are! I think you're wonderful, inspiring, and have so much to be proud of! ❤

You ARE going to get there, and you are going to learn important things along the way that will have a positive effect on your future. I know it is not easy, but it is doable. And learning we can do hard things is VERY empowering. In reference to your son's habits, in one sense be understanding because he has grown up under some tough circumstances and haven't learned good habits yet. Surely you are providing him a good example now of dealing with the hard things to make your life better, and he will gradually see the benefits that come from all your hard work. On the other hand, he needs to learn that especially now, he needs to help not bring more into the house, help by not making more work for you, and to maintain the spaces you have worked hard to clear. Kids will always say yes to more, but they don't have the maturity to see how they will benefit from less. This is a good time to teach self restraint, taking responsibility for your things, and showing initiative. Better to learn at his age then to be a young adult struggling to get and keep a job because those lessons weren't learned when there were gentler consequences. You are doing a great job raising him, and these are challenges for even 2 parent households. I expect when you move he will recognize that he is kinda the 'man of the household' and will pride himself in doing things to help you. Hang in there girl and keep tackling the hard things! I'm gonna guess the huge project might be a storage unit.

@karenpage93838 ай бұрын
@@SimplyLibbyt You are too! After having my own rough journey at your age, I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by next level adulting and a big change ahead of you. I was with one guy from high school for 7 years. He had cheated early on but then I thought he had settled down. Nope. Just hid it better. In the end, he just wanted me gone, despite the fact that we had bought a house together. He let me come home to find him behind a locked door with someone else. I never saw who. I lost it and he came out to get me to stop screaming, by throwing me down on the floor, slamming his knee in my chest and breaking 2 ribs. I got lucky there wasn't more damage. He left with her out the back door and I spent the entire night packing my car. Called my parents at midnight and they somehow showed up with a uhaul and boxes just after dawn. He ruined my credit for years and I never got my share of $ on the house. I signed my rights away to be done with him and cut the losses on my credit. I went on to meet the true love of my life who I am celebrating our 31st anniversary with. And together we had the most amazing son, who is turning 23 this week. I know from experience the best growth comes from the hard times. So if it feels like you are stuck in the hard times, pay close attention to the lessons you are there to learn. There is another YT'er who says "Turn your waiting room into a classroom.", which she said in reference to homesteading skills. But it applies to *everything*. Use times of financial struggle to learn how to budget, how to stretch your food, how to do without and find other ways to do things. Use times of loneliness to find ways to make yourself happy so you are less dependent on others for your joy. Use times of struggle to learn how others deal with challenges to learn new coping techniques. Every day presents the chance to learn, whether you are struggling with depression and ADHD or have zero conditions. This time is going to teach you that you can rely on yourself, and you will be teaching your son that lesson in the process. Its ok to show him you struggle, as long as you show him that you persevere and deal with it. You got this!

Dana K White says that when you're overwhelmed, start by looking for trash - just all the trash that you can see and reach without digging. The trash that you already recognize as trash. After that, just look for easy stuff - the stuff that already has an actual home somewhere else. Take it there now. Next, look for duh donations - things you don't even like or were already planning to get rid of. Put them in a donatable donate bin or bag. Only after all those decision-free things are out of the space do you have to start making decisions about what stays and what goes. It really helps for you to define the space. Give it a clear designated purpose and declutter to fill that purpose.

I now limit myself to 1 box of plastic bags, 1 box of paper bags, and 1 bag of matching grocery totes. That's worked for about 10 years now. How does it work living with your ex boyfriend? Are you at least friends now. I was just asking because I have been married for 35 years so I was trying to understand it. What is the names of your fur babies? Mine are Emma, Ginny and Luna .

We are currently living together until we go our seperate ways this summer. We get along pretty well so but it is still challenging. ♥
