When you talked about not fooling yourself into decluttering stuff you’re not using atm you really hit the nail in the head for me. I have a couple of palettes that I go into seasonally (Nabla Soul Blooming comes out in spring, Zoeva Smoky in winter) and whenever I’m doing a declutter I always put one of them in the chopping block depending on the time of year, absolutely sure this is the time they’ll leave my collection. Then I realise I have literally nothing else like those and I’m being an impulsive moron.

Same! I never wear rosy shades (as highlighter, eyeshadow, blush) except for maybe 2-3 weeks during spring and or winter, but when i crave them, i have to have them. I have decluttered and rebought all pinky shades two years in a row. Save to say im gonna keep them around this time, stored away.

I'd love more eyeshadow single organization 😍😍😍😍 I've been binge watching your overhead shot videos lately because it's so calming. As a side note: I was able to depot my UD moondust palette and it's so gratifying being able to move them around. Those shades are also magnetic. All of my shadows are now singles lol. Not that I had a ton before anyways...

@@NatalieValentina6 I just used a depotting tool (mine is from z palette but there are others) and pressed it underneath the shades. I think it helped that it is really hot where I live right now so the glue was loosened.

@@makaylar.6722 Thank you for getting back to me, Makayla. I tried using the same tool to remove mine, but I wasn't able to. It's possible that my glue is just stronger, b/c I only bought it a few months ago. It's also still cooler where I live. Perhaps I'll try heating it, to see if I can get the glue to loosen. I just wanted to make sure, that it's not one of those cases where you have to melt through the back of the packaging.

I don’t know what it would take for me to even begin to consider purchasing a palette without removable pans these days. I love the flexibility of relying on premade palettes when I’m feeling lost and breaking them up when I want. Lately I’ve been gripped by the desire for an electric periwinkle matte shadow and the Alma palette was beckoning. Once I learned a bit about what happened to Amy I noped right on out of there and ordered a couple Menagerie singles instead. We’ll see how it goes. ALSO I’ve been dying to try JD Glow singles, esp. unexpected which looks right up my alley, since the dawn of your channel and just never could decide which other galaxy shadows to try. Finally dawned on me I could just buy the one! So I did. I’m absurdly excited for it to arrive.

What I LOVE about this project, as with so many of your others, is the idea of imposing temporary rules and paying attention to how you respond to them. As someone who finds beauty videos relaxing and informative, I do consume a lot of them. And sometimes I wonder how my choices are being affected by them-not my choices to buy or not buy specific products, but my choices about what I think my makeup collection is supposed to look like-big or small, variety or minimalist-and by extension, who I think I’m supposed to be. I have set out to declutter before only to realize that despite owning many eyeshadow palettes, I don’t want to get rid of any of them, not because I want to hoard things I don’t use, but because even if I don’t use them everyday, I love variety in that area, and I do use them all. I’ve also realized, as you said, that there are areas where one or two products are fine-I don’t need much variety in brows, for example. I only want a few eyeliners and lip liners. I am fine to have one, maybe two bronzers. But I love variety in eyeshadow, blush, highlighter, and lips. (Foundation, concealer, and powder occupy a middle ground, where it’s less about abundance and more about knowing that my skin changes and want enough variety that I can adapt to that.) I think this is all so important to realize, because I can more easily talk myself out of new launches in areas where I don’t want abundance, and focus one deciding whether I want new items in areas where I do. I love how this project has turned out for you-that you’re allowing yourself variety and abundance and not forcing yourself to become a minimalist (not that this was ever the goal of the project, but its streamlined approach can be seductive). We are who we are. And to quote the end of an old high school rom com favorite of mine, now we just have to “try not to be afraid of it” (Never Been Kissed). (Not saying this movie is a guide for life or anything-yikes!-but I’ve always loved that line.)

I just ordered two I viseart palettes, I like that the pans pop out. During quarantine I started going through most of my single shadows and decluttered similar shades. But using my singles and creating my own color stories was so inspiring and fun. I do have premade palettes but I primarily use them for workdays. I’m very picky with premade palettes. I depotted many of my older premade palettes and made them into singles and decluttered the shades that I didn’t like, and with new ones I don’t want that to be necessary. I also really like the idea of being able to repurchase individual shades if I use them up. I got about 30 lethal cosmetics shadows for that reason, and I love them so much. I loved that project of yours! And it’s easy to do the same, or something similar.

I sat down with a cup of tea and a knitting project and REVELED in this video. I did a makeup project this month too, in a sense. It was the first stretch of time in nine years in which I wore no makeup except lipstick It has been really weird getting used to seeing my face without mascara and brows especially and even more weird realizing that it has been so weird, if that makes sense. When I want to get back into wearing makeup I will do a similar declutter to yours! I would love to see a single eyeshadow organization video or even another 'building a 9 pan palette' video as those are some of my favorites! xoxoxo

I can totally understand that depotable palettes are much more useful! I currently only own singles, no palettes. While I'm not opposed to ever buying a palette, if I'd get one it has to be easily depotable, I need to be able to create my own color schemes, otherwise I'd get bored.

I totally feel you on lip products. I have a very small collection but by far my biggest category is lip color. If I can’t have the perfect lippie for the day then I’ll just go without. I want it to be the right shade, color payoff, and formula for the day’s look. I don’t find there’s a lot of versatility with the way I wear blush so two is enough for me. And I’m not a fan of eyeshadow and base makeup. I like to have them, but I’m not passionate about having a lot of variety in those categories.

Man, we are total opposites! Haha. I feel like I could do without all but 2 of my blushes, but you'll have to pry my six (let's be real it's more like 16) slightly different green eyeshadows from my cold dead hands 🤣. Question for you: since your palettes all have removable pans, why not just pull all the pans out and keep them with your singles? I know with ND there's the lux factor, but with the neon green palette, if you only use the black, why not just pull it out and give the rest away as singles too? Just curious! The Alma palette was 1000% my aesthetic. I really love it which makes me extra sad about how Amy was treated. Def won't buy from the brand again, but Amy has such an excellent eye for color and the palette is so beautifully curated. I try to think of it as only her palette to delude myself haha! @@OrleidisLozada I know next to nothing, so you're not going to get the whole story from me. The little I do know was enough to put me off the brand, at least for the time being. There was something to do with customer service after the initial launch/sell-out of the palette and at some point Amy posted on her insta-stories that the brand had sent her a cease and desist notice (I think! It was a while ago and I don't know the ins and outs of how this stuff works.) I don't want to drag the brand or spread misinformation, so please please take this with a grain of salt.

Hannah I love the lipstick on you. I made a small Sydney Grace order and I bought 1 liquid eyeshadow in the shade "Suntan ". Your comment has me stumped I understand. I find it so EASY to use im low maintenance too. I put eyeshadow primer and just dab the smallest amount and buff it out. So easy. But I understand completely. I love this video. I have 2 premade palettes and one made palette and 2 cream eye shadows. That is way more than enough for variety for me. The older I get the more simple and enhancing I want to make my looks. Not bold colors. So it's cool to see your collection.

Oh I love my magnetic palettes filled with indie shadows. I literally never reach for my other palettes. I have the same feelings towards my indie nail polish. I have a bunch of gorgeous colouring shifting and holo polish from enchanted and ILNP, as well as some weird grungy cremes from cirque. Sally Hansen? We don't know her. (😂It sounds so pretentious, but I don't ever want to settle for Sally)

I don't think the mini ND palettes have removable pans, you would likely have to destroy the packaging to depot them!

I watched this for the Lancôme palette (which I got in the sale because I loved it on your videos). I love mine, I don't have many eyeshadow palettes so it is a stand out treat for me to play with beyond the standard nudes in the Naked2&3 palettes! It is testimony to your healthy and curious approach to looking at your relationship to possessions that I don't feel that we all have to have the same opinion on things, but am still inspired to pause and consider what brings me joy and is useful, without that being threatened or nullified by an external contrary view. Still sad to see it go though!

I love the colour story and some of the formulas too, but every time I pick mine up, I get a little sad that around 50% of the shadows smashed in transit and the brand didn't even acknowledge my email letting them know :/ Edited to add that I wasn't even aware of how they behaved towards Amy and towards their customers following the release. I just read up a little and wow. With so many indie brands out there getting it right (Clionadh, Devinah, Erin's Faces to name just a few), there's no way I'm spending any more money on Ami Hearts Beauty. Gosh, poor Amy - she seems like such a good soul.

What happened?

Or even if I can depot them. Watching this, I have a solid couple palettes i'm going to declutter because they are big and I cannot depot them. I love knowing that with ND I always have the make your own palette option because I have learned that anything more than 15 and I'm like ughhhhh.....

Your makeup looks really good today. I feel like I know your makeup about as well as you do. Do you and Joe push back the furniture and tango? I'm just romantic enough to want to do that with my guy. Just pausing to say I’m similar in that I consider myself a minimalist in terms of base, cheek, brow and lip products. I have one cream highlighter, one cream bronzer, three cream blushers that double as lip products, one lipstick, one lipgloss and some lipbalm, one brow pen and one brow gel. But eyes, LAWL!!! 14 palettes, five cream shadows, multiple mascaras, two liners. I’ve just accepted that eye products have always been, and will always be, my downfall.
