I feel a bit vindicated that you hold onto those old letters too! There's just something about handwritten notes/letters, reading it in that person's voice, being able to feel the handwriting, and being taken back to a place and time. A reminder of things learned, with real emotion behind it (big bonus that they take up relatively little space). I was also so sad to find out about the gelatin photos thing when I did too - I used to love taking Instax photos and handing them off to people, trading them, etc. You really cleared out quite a lot!
