]It took me 5 months(!!!) to film this and finish the decluttering, because I kept taking lonnngg breaks away from home. I hope u like watching!!

As a plant person, I am immensely proud of you. Getting rid of plants that do not spark joy is the path to freedom. Also, YAY for unrealistic goals that take longer to complete than we think they will because they get us MOVING and that is the point. Good work, Gabi.

This is so realistic. U didn’t need to buy bunch of new organizers just to declutter, clean up, and organize your things. You made use of what’s available and what you already have. You also showed that you need to invest time and effort to do this and it’s okay to take it one day at a time. This video motivated me to clean and declutter my room and our living room, thank you so much this video!

You are not a trash hoarder. You are a responsible person who doesn't want to be wasteful. This will help you in the future to accumulate less unnecessary stuff. Also, if you keep up regular decluttering over time, giving away stuff others can still use is much easier because it's just a couple of things here and there. You did great with this big reset!

Decluttering has helped me take stock of what is important to me over time. First time I did a large declutter, it was mostly stuff I had accumulated over the years that had lost their connection to me in the present. It was like finding myself in all this stuff I had. So now what I do have reflects me and makes me happier, even if it still seems like a lot at times. I also have a better understanding of what I enjoy so when I purchase new things they stick around longer and I don't need as much.

I am a massive sentimental hoarder and a “what if I need it” hoarder but I loved when you said that you could always repurchase something if you ever needed it/wanted it in the future but right now you don’t. I tried starting my decluttering journey March 2023 when I had a full week off of work. I agree, I regret taking that time to do that rather than just not be stressed out. I also only went through my clothes and books in that week. I got rid of 90 books and 4-5 bags of clothes but then I also struggled with how to get rid of them and it wasn't until July I finally had a garage sale, took them to a used clothes donation place and sold my books at the used bookstore. Now it's getting to be the end of the year and this video has motivated me to remember the rest of my house and just go for it!

Learning about fabric recycling has really helped me in my own de-cluttering journey! There are places (sometimes bins or clothing stores depending on where you are geographically) were you can take you unusable fabrics like destroyed shoes or holey socks and they'll be recycled! Not a perfect solution, but one step above the landfill!

I definitely get the box/packaging hoarding! One thing I'll say - I regret getting rid of certain types of gift bags, shipping paper and good tissue paper, but I never regret getting rid of old boxes and styrofoam. When it comes to giftwrap, anything that's sparkly or shiny isn't recyclable. If I can reuse packaging paper as giftwrap, it's recyclable for the giftee and relieves some of that guilt in a purposeful way :). In regard to recycling - I was a recycling educator for two years and have been in the sustainability industry for 12. If any viewers aren't sure what they can recycle, please remember NOT to recycle according to what the packaging says (kudos to tofu goob for educating herself and knowing little strips of paper aren't recyclable!). Recycling is LOCAL and varies. Check out your recycle hauler's website, municipality site, and local advocacy group info. Tons of good info, just not from product manufacturers :( If you're feeling a lot of guilt about your waste stream, try to shop your home first, then hit the thrift stores before buying new (both options are 100% guilt free)

When I started my journey into what I like to think of as philosophical minimalism (IE, only having things that serve multiple purposes and that bring me joy, vs just Not Having Things) I jumped into the decluttering process way too hard and wound up with a lot of really severe decision fatigue. I want to thank you for this super realistic declutter video. I identify so hard with the guilt you feel over getting rid of individual items, and how overwhelming it can feel to go through stuff and decide on each item. Sometimes I feel somewhat emotionally attached to items and it makes it so difficult to get rid of stuff. Like maybe some trinkets people bought me, or a birthday gift. They were thinking of me when they bought it, so how could I possibly get rid of it?! But I've been doing really well at breaking through that type of thing and I'm working on decluttering my entire house. I also have a hard time with trying to get rid of things responsibly and sustainably. so I’ll hold onto something for years because it’s too painful to let it go to a landfill, or recycling, or even a thrift store, where it might still end up at a landfill. But in the end, I have to be realistic about my space so I don’t become a hoarder lady with piles of unused stuff and garbage. But it definitely still hurts, so I’ve started to channel that pain into slowing way down on what I bring IN to my space, rather than fretting about what I have to take OUT. Every time I reach for something at a store, or put things in an online shopping cart, I remember the pain of getting rid of all those other things, and it helps me think twice about whether I want to become responsible for that object. It’s really helped!

I've been living my own for 23 due to circumstance I move about every year year/year and a half. I've been doing the baskets and bins thing since way before the craze. It works so well for me due to balance issues and being short. They either come from the dollarstore or they've been built for me. I have 17 tote boxes for my entire apartment. I have kept the same amount of tote boxes for 23 years. I make sure that when I move I can pack up and go they why the baskets and bins come in handy. And they always fit in every apartment that I've had. I'm not a minimalist but over over purchase either. If you do the boxes and thing it tends to keep your stuff organized where you can find it almost immediately, it contains what you have and kind of mentally tells you what you can bring in and what you can't. When I was in my second year of high school I took a home economic class and we were taught to knit sew and all that stuff. I hated it due to hand dexterity issues. My meme would fix the hole and the next morning I would get up and half of it would be done 🤣.. I would love to say that she passed the class with 96.. I still have them because she passed away in 2007. You did a really good job. Can't imagine how overwhelming that must have been for you.

Thank you for posting this! I watch decluttering videos and yours made my mind click. While watching I saw clothes that you were giving away that I'd love to have and it made me realize (as I'm currently decluttering myself) that me giving away clothes I don't like or wear can make others appreciate and love them more than I can. To give that happiness forward :)

I started doing someting like this 1 year ago... I spend 22 years saving millions of tipes of trash that I swore I needed. I still have a long way to go, but the first step was te most important. It's amazing to see someone´s journey. Thank you for sharing with us

Yes on the guilt! I feel the same way. This was really supportive to watch as someone creative. I also don't use the term 'get rid' as much as possible and try to say 'pass on' so I understand that my well kept items will make someone very happy. Equally, the trash items that come in packaging are so sad to toss :(

Just moved into a new home. Honestly this is what I needed to see. I was in the process of going through clothes and organizing closets when I just started getting rid of things while watching your video. Thank you!

I feel you, man. This is always the vibe as someone who has inherited the mindset of "but what if I could use that for something else?" as if I don't forget I have those things in any instance I could have used it, haha. Also, love your space, would love to see an apt tour at some point if you'd like!!

This video came around to me at the right time. My twins are starting daycare and I have a window of opportunity before I go back to work. I've been having a hard time mustering the energy to work on decluttering our house. This has motivated me!

I agree. I have learned to start my decluttering in visible spaces. It builds a little energy. I have about 15 years worth of stuff to declutter and it is so challenging.

I love that you shared about it taking you 5 months. I didn’t realize that from the video. You definitely inspired me to declutter my own belongings. I’ve honestly been wanting to do it for months now. I might even film myself doing it & share it as well. The thought of recording myself is what’s been lowkey kind of stopping me…but I think it’d be fun. Lol

I found your video while doing decluttering in my house and it was so so cool to just do my stuff while listening to you. Like it’s really helped me to relax and realize that I’m not alone with all of those feelings. I do the same thing with leaving stuff and then finding it a year later like Taylor forgetting I didn’t throw it out for some reason. Thanks a lot for the video!

You did amazing!💕 I know it's hard, I did this a couple years back and I felt like I could finally breathe. I grew up in a hoarder house so it also healed a part of me.

This was a great video. You killed it Gabi. It’s so easy to get discouraged when decluttering but you pushed through each day until it was done. Also, all of your donations will be welcomed into other homes for further use, that is awesome🙂

I loved the video, this is very realistic and motivating. Not wanting to throw things away and ending up hoarding them is so relatable 😖 You show a great example on how to declutter - day by day, in small increments, stopping if you're tired. This is certainly the way to go 💪

Loved the realistic struggles of decluttering lol .. why is it so mentally taxing? Tip for those of us who say we're gonna sell stuff but don't or don't have the space to think about it: there are two options I've utilized in the past (specifically for clothes, bags, shoes - that kind of stuff) that I love!! ThreadUp is an online thrift store for women's apparel and the like. ForDays has an amazing program set up for sustainable closet cleanouts called the Take Back Bag. Both companies send you large bags with shipping labels to send your stuff to them. ThreadUp you can choose to sell your items similarly to online consignment & you'll get money to use toward your purchases or I think you can also cash out for a lower amount. ForDays responsibly donates, recycles, or throws out items sent to them - only 4% ends up in landfills (unlike GoodWill). For me these are awesome alternatives to remembering to actually take my things to donate/sell and I know the companies are helping towards a more sustainable fashion future.

I feel like I can really relate to you in terms of the things you keep excess off, the things that are hard to get rid of, and the reasons you end up keeping things. I also have my packaging materials hoard and random plastic tidbits because I have to take them all the way to a store that recycles plastic film. So I found this super useful. Things I'm taking away from your example include leaving sorting the "Things to Get Rid Of" to the end and also remembering to not prepare too far in advance for the seasons I'm not in yet. Thank you so much for sharing!
