@@dtanatheist Besides travelling at hypersonic speeds, hypersonic missiles are also expected to maneuver upon re-entry into atmosphere.

The sheer number of calculations per second needed to intercept a Missile traveling at many times the speed of sound makes it a next to impossible to intercept, especially if that particular missile can maneuver and change course. Because every time it changes course the missile defense system would have to recalculate and recalibrate, wasting precious seconds.
