In this video, Raj Mehta gives an overview of the Plastic Pipes Industry of India and their evolution. This is the 3rd part of the Building materials series (1st part being tiles industry and 2nd being paints industry). He talks about various product categories as well as the major players & their strategies. He also talks about what can be the competitive advantages for any player in the industry.

Excellent presentation. We have independently done competitive studies in this industry for multiple years. I would have liked a little bit more on the product mix. In fact, many of these companies used to give out PVC : CPVC mix, this would explain the profitability. Typically Lubrizol licensees have higher costs, and higher realizations. A little bit of coverage on shift of Astral from Lubrizol to Japanese sources for CPVC and its own compound mixing, how it has been able to reduce costs per kg. Also, there is a significant difference between companies in terms of Marketing expenses. While some pay large amounts to brand expenses, there are others, where the marketing expenses are largely on annual turnover rebates, dealer promotions etc. On tanks, there is a very large Third party manufacturing network..etc.. Overall an excellent presentation. Look forward to the next update presentation on this industry. The most exciting period for this industry is actually after the period of this presentation.

Sir at first IDOL pipes and fittings was highlighted but throughout the slide their was no name for it. As far as i know IDOL pvt ltd is also doing good in the market and customers have good response towards the product range and quality. Recently they came no.1 in exporting column pipes and got award by the chief minister of gujrat.

Supreme is a good company but only thing is that's their entrance to a another field which make no sense Rather they could concentrate on the sector of pipes and gained more market share from other players
