Nero's persecution of Christians is found in Tacitus's Annals in the paragraph after the one where he mentions Christ and Pilate in the middle of Book XV. In my Penguin copy its pages 365-366 in chapter 14 The Burning of Rome. Pompey the Great conquered Judea in 63 BC.

One modernist bishop is not proof of universal teaching. Claiming you have God's favor because you were never conquered is foolish because it denies the truth that God disciplines His people and claims prosperity is a sign of God's favor much like the heretical prosperity gospel. Did you forget about the captivity under Babylon? Did you forget about the Spaniards under Umayyad rule for 700 years? Did you forget about your Croatian and Polish brothers under Communism? You also hypocritically ignore your Popes handpicked by Germanic kings, bribery by the Borgias and infiltration by the CIA as if the Papacy were immune to corruption. You are arrogantly ignorant to history, Papist. Just shut up before you embarrass yourself more.

The idea of the war in heaven being a sort of court case and not an actual war as we typically think of it is really interesting and it's not something I ever even thought to consider but makes perfect sense. Though, is it a bad thing that when you first said the angels battled with words my first thought was a rap battle or slam poetry?

10:00 I'll add that our acts of courage and ascetic struggles to cultivate virtue give the angels (and deified men and women, too) joy as, like you said, it's their job to assist us. Saint Nektarios of Aegina once appeared to someone posthumously and actually complained to the effect of, "Oh, why aren't people praying to us!? It's as if we Saints are all on strike or out of work!" Imagine being hired to do something and you can barely do it!

The beast out of the sea can't be Rome by a very simple fact. In Daniel it is presented as the fourth kingdom who conquers and tramples the previous three. Rome never did that. The islamic caliphate did.

I have heard that 666 is also the numerical value of the word "beast" in Hebrew. Some ancient manuscripts present 616 as a variant on the "number of the beast". It turns out that 616 is the numerical value of "of the beast". Beast: Nun (50) + vav (6) + yod (10) + resh (200) + tav (400) = 666 Of the beast: vav (6) + yod (10) + resh (200) + tav (400) = 616

I’ve subscribed to your channel. I’m interested in Orthodoxy. I was introduced to St Gregory Palamas. Also have been looking at more critiques and objections to the filioque and Papal primacy as is dogmatized and promulgated in Vatican 1 and post schism. Where can I start. What can I begin to read. Right now I’ve been reading articles and listening to streams by both Ubi and Seraphim.

Palamism leads to a polytheistoc view of God and the practice of hesychasm is blatantly similar to eastern "religions". In charity, rethink your positions.

@@vasil05 Rome canonized St. Gregory Palamas and hesychastic fathers so cease your foolish blasphemous rantings, Papist. You know not of what you speak. Orthodoxy is eternal.
@LayRule10 ай бұрын
@@vasil05 I’m not so sure I can make the mental jump from monastic pious prayer and meditation to polytheism. Maybe rather you are referring to theosis/deification? In which case I would not find any dissonance from biblical perspicuous passages that with great pains, stresses ,with lucidity, the universal call to holiness and infused righteousness by way of progressive sanctification by the mercy and grace of God. As far as hesychasm, which is simply an inner stillness could only be seen as a practical fulfillment of such passages as “be still and know that I am God.” Or references to the still small voice of God. “Meditate on your bed in tears” etc. I’m simply interested in the theology of a very eastern religion which is Eastern Orthodoxy which is the fulfillment of the very popular eastern religion called Judaism. But the matters I am unclear on are not those things which you have mentioned, but rather those things which I have mentioned.

@@LayRule The issue is they follow the refuted claims of Barlaam when he mocked Athonite monks while praying that their posture is from yoga. They claim that because we make a distinction between the essence and energies of God that we make the energies another god.

@@ElonMuskrat-my8jy what is a trusted source for essence energies distinction? St. Gregory? Are there any modern apologists?
