Hi Shreyas! I completed the 16 day chant today. I couldn't culminate it on a full moon day however, I started on the day of Hanuman Jayanti and finished on the first day of the waxing moon. I salute you for your efforts to making sundarakanda available digitally. I literally cried while listening to the Sargas which describes Sita's troubles and while Hanuman finally met Sita. SaptaSarga Parayanam is also popular in South India where devotees should read 7 sargas per day on rotational basis and finally on the 68th day, all the 68 chapters 'ld be completed 7 times (with 7 sargas each day). Hanuman, as the name of the third most important character of Ramaayana, has a good number 0f higher or esoteric meanings. 1. Hanu = jaw is just the literary or Rudhi meaning of the word Hanu; it is derived from the root 'Han' which means Himsa Gatyou, i,e, subjected to force and made to do a thing or work under duress, the second means Movement; In sanskrit, all those words which have meanings of general movement , are also endowed with two more meanings of (a) jnana=Knowledge (b) Prapti in addition to its own usual meaning of motion = gamana. Hence, Hanuman means Jnanavan. a totally different interpretation of the episode, in which Indra breaks the jaw of Hanuman by hurling his Vajra, has two interpretations. (1) from evolutionary biology, lower broke from its rigid attachment to the upper jaw, when Humanoids started eating cooked food, using intentionally or accidentally produced fires. This reduced the force required to eat hard food, leading to a weakening of the lower jaw and its consequent separation from the upper jaw. This also produced a modification of brow and creation of more space in the skull. Therefore, size of the brain doubled in Humanoids and they moved away from Apes. this made the act of delivering a human child by its mother, a most difficult process , among all mammals. This bonus of doubling of Brain size, is symbolized as the Birth of Hanuman or Jnanavan, one with wisdom. This process also produced one more evolutionary change. The voice box, capable of producing various types of sound patterns in different combinations, brought about by sliding down of the voicebox from the junction of cervicla vertebra C2 and C3 to the junction of C4 and C5. This was a blessing - the out going breath was forced through the mouth, producing a much larger number of speech sounds. This also created a major problem, of food getting struck in the entrance to the wind pipe, causing choking. This is the birth of Sugreeva - one with good voicebox. The natural friendship between good speech with wisdom is the union between Sugreeva and Hanuman. Both are connected with Soori = suurya, the source of incomparable brightness and light, the symbol of Knowledge, Jnaana. Vaali or Bali, one with immense physical strength, symbolized by the strong Tail, the Coccyx bone, which actually provides the requisite impulse for forward thrust. Earlier forms show 4 or 5 vertebrae, which get merged into single bone in Humanoids. This is the implied meaning of Raama and Sugreevas friendship and elimination of Vaali. Raama, the symbol of Dharma and Bliss, can only befriend good speech produced by a wise mind. Raama always pleases and makes all the persons who come in contact with him, by his most blissful speech and behaviour. Sundara is also one of the grades of Aananda. Further, Indra who at this stage of evolution, symbolizes Indriyaananda - pleasure for the organs of action and perception, is to be transformed and elevated to feel the higher levels of Aananda, as described in Taittireeya. Therefore, he comes backas, one the Amsha in Angada and also as the eldest son of Raama, Kusha. Raavana, symbolizes, the roaring of 10 indriyas hankering after organic pleasures. Therefore, he has a natural friendship with Vaali
