Perhaps the group's rawest, loudest song. (They didn't record many.) George carries it superbly, just like "She Said She Said." Gliding from the running melody riff to sharp lead lick and back. And for all the "more cow bell" comments on half the songs I've seen on YT, here's the Holy Grail. Though apparently it's a fire bell, but so what. Always wondered if Ringo played it; it's Paul--you really hear how exacting he is. Not just clanging the thing, but playing it like an instrument to support the song. These four guys made magic.

Raw is not what I'd call it. Not unless you mean raw energy. A better rocker than Helter Skelter. I don't know why it isn't more highly regarded. To me, the best track on the White Album. But then, I'm also partial to the Savoy Truffle. Another song that nobody but me seems to get.

I love George's nasty fierce and blistering tone throughout the song. George, Paul and Ringo made this tune cook... not bad for "session" players on this John Song. John's guitar is fantastic in this too. I referred to the other 3 as session musicians because I've often heard that he sessions from the white Album seemed more like 4 solo artists using the other 3 as session musicians when it was time to record their tune. Frankly I don't think any of the combinations of very good or great session players that the 4 individual Beatles worked with during their solo careers, ever equaled the chemistry, quality or sound that the Bestles provided to one another with their musicianship and shared musical vocabulary.

Despite what Wikipedia says, Paul played the fire bells in the basic track. John and George played their guitars so loud, that Paul couldn't record his bass alongside them so he went over to a fire bell and started hitting it. It was during the overdubs he played his bass.

I think John Lennon was inspired by the verse of Manfred Manns song 'Mighty Quinn' (...'Everybody's building ships... etc) when he wrote the verse of this song. The chord transition and melody are quite similar. The Beatles recorded "Monkey" less than a year after Manfred Mann recorded their song. No offense btw, I love this song, and the similarity is subtle

After the drum break. This is all started with Lennon writing down all the things that Maharishi had said that were just double speech to sound like he had an idea of what he had supposed to be talking about. Dude was a real creep to girls boys and Ringo left the first night because he was told that he couldn’t smoke. I think I’d be pretty mad too. @ticcy toccy 2.0 It's mostly because four track master tape recorders and 2 track recorders were used and the bass track was recorded in the same track as the others with electric or acoustic guitars and drums, Rock band tried their best to isolate them. It wasn't until around 1968 when they started using eight track recorders. and the Bass tracks were clearer. For this song, however, We don't have access to the tapes quite yet. It would sound a lot clearer if we did. Rock band/Guitar hero games had access to the Master tapes and isolated each of the instruments and put it to the game.
