The thing I like the most about this one is how we can feel their "personalities" through the solo. Paul goes melodic, George kinda twangy and John just fuzzing it.

I don't hear any of that. Paul is simple but with attitude. George had FAR more note bending, vibrato, and rapid changes. John howled. George easily the best technically.

There'll never be a better ending song to a musical career. It's just not possible to top. Each member taking the spotlight: Ringo's first drum solo; fantastic guitar riffs from JPG; a message of deep love to all. And yet somehow still understated and perfectly economical. Their End was as magical and transcendent as their beginning.

Paul's guitar play definitely hints at what's to come with Wings. After fifty years of listening to these guys, I've concluded that Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End is their greatest work. I've had it on repeat since the "Get Back" doc came out almost eighteen months ago. Can't stop, won't stop.

Thank you again for yet another phenomenal upload. I find this section the most emotional (not surprisingly, given what it signifies). In the section that features the orchestra, I'd already just listened to "...The love you take Is equal to the love you make" three times, once I heard the orchestra swell in at 11:15 (right after "love"), I teared up. So. Beautiful. God bless you, George Martin. Is it indeed George/John/Paul singing that final line? I know their voices mesh brilliantly and in such a fantastically produced album as this, Martin and Emerick could probably make them sound any way they wanted--look at the eight thousand iterations of Paul in "Love you!" Still, I can't distinguish anyone but Paul, especially in the opening/closing unisons of "And in the end..." and "...you make." It might just be decades of my assuming it was Paul that makes me unable to correct the way my ears recognize. I rather hope it is all of them, since it's just so ideal as an ending. NOTE: I just spotted this video that manages to isolate the vocal track, and I was half right! kzbin.info/www/bejne/emamqKeYa76Yna8 Looks like it's just Paul on the opening and closing words I pointed out, with John (and presumably George elsewhere, but I haven't found his vocals isolated yet) on "...the love you take, is equal to the..." line, and of course the glorious "AH" chords afterward. So, I'm gonna take that as a partial win. :) But now, speaking of "the ending" and how appropriate it is that the lads do all sing/play on it, that leads me to a comment... While one in-depth Beatles analysis website waves a hand dismissively at the fans' notion that this was an intentional final, ultimate goodbye message--since apparently the medley was originally planned for side 1, and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" was supposed to be the end of side 2--I'm gonna wave my hand right back at the author. Because regardless of that original idea, the truth is they *did* decide to put this at the end of their final studio effort, and that has to have been a conscious choice by at the very least McCartney and Martin. Having all three guitar solos, Ringo's only solo, the final couplet... how is this not a curtain call? (And as much as I like "I Want You...," it really would've felt awkward and underwhelming as an end of an album. A make-out song--a damn hot one, to be sure, but still--with lyrics a total of nine individual words? Oy.) What do others think? In the final analysis this is the message the Beatles placed as their finale and the fact that it's so ideal just shows what phenomenal instincts they and everyone who produced this masterpiece had.

@@Erkbrothers80 It's always seemed that Paul had the final say in the Beatles when he sang the words "...you make." But the way I see it, George actually had the last "word" with that short solo. It's absolutely transcendent, as beautiful as any notes he ever played. I tear up most times I hear it. (I don't count "Her Majesty" because it's really just an accidental postscript. "The End" was obviously meant to be their farewell.)
