My grandmother used to keep her tree decorated year round but when Christmas was over she used to throw a garbage bag over the top of it and store it in one of the spare bedrooms of her house.

I live in Canada and most everyone here would consider before Halloween too early to put a Christmas display up. It has nothing to do with Thanksgiving, just that houses being decked out for Christmas on Halloween would ruin the spirit of the day....the "spooky" atmosphere. Most people who go all out for Christmas do the same on Halloween so they want their displays up on Halloween as well. What's most common here is to put out your Christmas display sometime in November to make sure you get it set up before it gets too cold/snows too much. It's been snowing later every year now, but putting your lights and stuff up in December used to be considered late because of the weather at that point.

My "adoptive" grandparents use to keep a tree up year round and would change the decorations based on the time of the year and if there were any holidays that month. It was one of my favorite things in there house when I was younger.

Back in my college days I worked at Walmart during my summer and winter breaks between semesters. It was a 24 hour store and only closed Christmas day. They would always make the night shift tear down all the Christmas decorations on December 24th so that they could have the Valentines day stuff out and on the shelves when they opened on the 26th.
