@@OriginallyWorn Tip: Actually, if you place some masking tape over the area you want to remain a paint trim, then just apply the glue over the material, "it is far easier to cut on material that's stuff. And just pull off tape with material. Understand?

Beautiful material it would be nice for a kimono. On the drawers l would have glued to the top instead of the edge cause it would wear out and fray. It's nice. I did one with matte varnish instead of glue.

I've done this, but just soaked fabric in starch, squeeze out most of the excess, then applied the fabric to the surface & used a brayer, or squeegee, to smooth & attach it. Came out beautifully & stayed adhered. The benefit of this method though, is that you can remove it easily when you want to change things up.

You could literally have a big piece of furniture done this way and then pick 1 colour out of the material to decorate the rest of the room, with cushion covers and the like. Im itching to do a piece of furniture like this., i will buy a stool or something from a charity shop and practice on it., and if no body likes it in my family ( hubby) i will take it back to the charity shop and somebody else can have it.

Beautiful work. Thank you. I love that you took the care to match the pattern across all three drawer fronts. And I love the peek-a-boo idea. If you don't want to use Sloan wax on the drawer runners, I'm hearing bees wax works well. I've had success with rubbing a scrap chunk of candle on the runners. I shy away from big splashy prints, but your end result is quite lovely and refreshing. Good choice in drawer pulls too.

Hello, I finally did my own dresser with my cotton tablecloth and Mod Podge. But I sealed the drawer fronts using the dry iron” method and it worked brilliantly! I let it set up overnight, and the dresser fronts did feel really scratchy from the Mod Podge, so I sanded them with 220 sandpaper and now they feel silky soft.

This I have done using mod podge. I just poured the mod podge on the top, smoothed it out with a brush, placed the fabric on top. Smoothed out the fabric. Put a protective coat on top. I know she used Annie Sloan but it can be expensive and mod podge is cheap especially when using a Michaels or Hobby Lobby coupon. So you can do exactly the same as she is doing. I just wait for it to be thoroughly dry before trimming the fabric with the exacto knife.

I know this video is 3 yrs old but do I need to wash the fabric 1st? Like is there some reason you wouldn't want to do that. I'm using a thin cotton square over a small wood table top. This is such a great tutorial. It's the best one I've seen. And I've seen a lot 😂 I have to do ridiculous research before I do something knew because I'm so unsure of myself. Thanks!!💕
@OriginallyWorn
@OriginallyWorn Жыл бұрын
You can do it! Don’t stress too much! This stuff is meant to be fun and can be experimental! Just don’t start with your mothers heirloom and you should be fine 🤣 as for washing it, you certainly can but you don’t have to. Either way :) Also, if want to make it less permanent you can use liquid starch instead of glue. I don’t recall if I have actually made a video on it (I do it on walls sometimes for a wallpaper) but basically you take liquid starch, put a layer down, put the fabric down, another layer or starch. Let dry. Trim to size. To remove, soak with warm water and was away the starch. Hope that new info doesn’t confuse you, unless you want it removable, stick with the video and glue ;)

This is really lovely. I would suggest a rotary cutter pressed into the edge of the lip would eliminate the need for the ruler. Also some pretty braid would hide the edge. Would it be possible to use this for a dining/kitchen table? How would you get a durable permanent finish?
@OriginallyWorn
@OriginallyWorn 2 жыл бұрын
Hello. Yes, both helpful suggestions! These most protective way would be to expoxy it, but you could also use multiple layers of a poly acrylic and it should change the color. (Water based)

Beautiful project! Bravo! I have a 10 ft long mid century piece-(it’s actually three pieces 2 cabinets and a chest of drawers) that I have been long trying to decide what to do with since I really dislike painting furniture. I’m just not good at it- too much in a hurry I suppose! I also have a large stash of vintage silk sari fabric. I wonder how that would adhere for a boho type piece. Thanks for the great tutorial. Btw- wouldn’t painters tape helped to keep those side pieces of wood protected?

ohmercy thanks for your kind works! Not sure how silk would work... a small part of me says it will dry odd but I bigger part of me says jump in and give it a try 😂🤷‍♀️maybe on a sample board or smaller project First though. And yes, I imagine painters tape might help, thanks! :)
