I've only now noticed that the chimney sweep boy is the same boy as in the family on the box of cornflakes in one episode.

When I was a very, very little girl (5 when the first series came out and 8 when the second one did) I used to imagine what University life might be like and this programme, um, told me. My dad was a professor, so I knew what universities were (apparently he took me to lectures as a toddler when he was meant to be looking after me on Fridays when my mum went to work...) I don't think my parents really understood the Young Ones at all, as if they did they would surely not have let me watch it, but I couldn't wait to grow up and live in a student house like Neil (I didn't really like the other ones). And, it came true, because they filmed the series in Bristol and that was the university I ended up in. It might have been 10+ years later, but our Bristol student house really was that horrid (we had a party once and green gunge started oozing down the wall from somewhere, we never found out where). Plus I was on University Challenge! I've actually done the "young ones walk" around student areas of Bristol, which was a thing up until the late 90s, when I suppose people hadn't watched the programme for years. I still love this programme, as does my daughter, it's passed down the generations. Plus Andi Oliver was in it.

Nice one Amy.The Young Ones are abit of a time capsule.But one that keeps recuring.Yeah,Neil was the more peaceful I suppose.
@count692 жыл бұрын
We had a 'green gunge' incident in our student house! We started to notice the bright luminous gunge slowly oozing from underneath the TV. Eventually we discovered the source. There was a bottle of Postman Pat Bubble Bath on the mantle piece, one of those large bottles shaped like a figure about 12" high. It had been damaged during a party and had a small hole down one leg that was slowly oozing the gunge that went behind the mantle piece, down behind the fireplace and fire, and then along the floor and underneath the TV. It took us ages to find the source!

The jokes were so abundant in these scripts that almost 40 years later I'm catching ones I missed before. For example the Brother's Karamazov joke. I had completely missed the connection with the War and Peace comment, I thought it was just a non-sequitor.
