Pastor Tim, I have never felt so at home in any space like I have in the Basement. I am 64 years old and starting over after 43 years of marriage ended in divorce. I’ve known few Believers who roll in authenticity like you. Thank you for making a safe space to hear, to feel seen and heard, and to heal. God bless you.💜

I found out about this channel less than five days ago, and it had become the only thing I do in my free time 3 of those 5 nights since then. These kinds of honest conversation are where I am at. This is why ten years ago I didn’t get married because he really wanted to be a leader, and I was wanting to be a Moses “go with” follower. I sensed it, and God had other plans for me. I am want to learn more and keep being honest. This is where it is at, this podcast. I used to listen to the podcast Beautiful Anonymous. It reminds me our histories and stories are important. I am blown away at how refreshing and convicting these conversations are. The Holy Spirit... So thankful…

I feel that code switching view so much. Being biracial it’s been almost automatic to do, because we don’t immediately see “us”, and we gravitate towards sides of ourselves. I’m learning that I shouldn’t be in pursuit of the acceptance of culture, even from my own - as much as I seek what is pleasing to God. Thank you again for fleshing out this topic 🙏🏽

I think I can officially say that this has been my FAVORITE episode of The Basement so far! I liked Dee-1 since I heard his song “The One” in my single season, but this conversation here!!! I’m like this my brother in Christ FR! The AUTHENTICITY and flow of Holy Spirit between you two in this conversation. Oooooweeee! I shared it with two of my friends before I could even finish. Y’all don’t even know how much confirmation, freedom, and clarity I have received this morning from the things I believe Holy Spirit has spoken to me regarding my Kingdom position as a daughter of King Jesus. Who is also black, a lil-ghetto, a wife, a mama, a daughter, and sister in Christ.🥹 This has been so freeing and gently convicting for the future God has planned for me. Thank y’all so much for this! Until we meet Uncle Tim…🙏🏾🫶🏾

I can not wait to share this with my 6 and 9 year old boys. I’m a caucasian woman and a mother to 3 biracial children. 2 of which have had a ton of questions about who they’re “supposed” to be or sound or act like and I tell them “just be you, the you that feels right in your heart and spirit because that’s who God sent to this earth” That resonates with them because like this pod I’m authentic with my children in this new walk with Christ so they trust that but I believe this pod with Dee1 and seeing a truly authentic person who loves God and a man who looks to them as exactly what in their minds is cool or at least familiar will be such a blessing for them. They’re young but they GET IT and my 9 yr old is who brought me even into this relationship with God to be completely transparent. He was looking at me for answers and knowledge and that pushed me to find out not even for me at the time but for him. Anyways this pod is a true blessing and I just thank y’all for your obedience! ❤

Ayy this podcast is the real deal,I’m not good at being vulnerable, but being a refugee from Africa who came to the states when I was 12 and being a saved Christian my friend circle is very small close to one or none, and I was authentic but didn’t know how to be relatable. Thanks for this podcast, I really never knew how the Black Culture can influence you very much especially in the teens and young adults just wow. I code switched for 10 years in ministry that was very legalistic. I learned how we were to greet newcomers, what words you’re supposed to use during announcements. I learned what appropriate worship looked like and how much more I was supposed to make eye contact with people or smile. I learned how to become the happy bubbly “leader” I was taught to be and how to greet someone with a smile while hiding the trauma I was living through with my family when I left church each night after serving. Code switching took so much from me because now that I have been through counseling, found a healthy church, and am wading through years of who I am and what all I’ve been through, there is a grief that comes with not being authentic to myself. I’m so grateful for this podcast. The holy spirit continually uses each episode for so many exactly where they are. We are so grateful for your authenticity and vulnerability, Tim!

This was so good just thinking about my own life and code switching for work and certain environments and learning to be my authentic self while not compromising and showing the character of jesus in my steps, i notice that the people around me are influenced by the way i carry myself since i have gotten the confidence to walk in who God has called me to be. I had a lady recently at work ask me what is that on me, she said it feels like calm and peace whenever im around. It didnt hit me until this basement conversation that since i have just been being myself and not compromising they are watching silently and being influenced by what they see and it makes them want more.

I literally had to pull over to type this. . . .im currently a psych intern in my last year of my program. . . .2 days ago I was reflecting on a comment my supervisor made 2 weeks prior about how she noticed that Im "different" with my clients (majority Black and Hispanic) than I am with her and the rest of the staff (majority white) and that she wanted to see me be the same I am with my clients as with her. At the time when she told me this I didn't quite get what she was trying to say. . . . it finally hit me that she was referencing my code switching, which I had never been very conscious of. I didn't know how to feel about it but something in my heart felt uneasy. . . Just now, I clicked on this pod to listen to as I drove and the moment y'all started to talk about code switching, my eyes just swelled up with tears. It dawned on me how suppressed "me - me" the natural, not white-washed me actually is. . . .I say all this to say Thank You Tim Ross and Dee-1 for having this conversation. Thank you for taking this to that topic. Everything you each said was not just awakening for me, it was healing. It was validation that I didn't realize I needed. ❤

Dee-1 father is exactly like my dad. He wouldn’t have those convos but I was able to see him love my mother and work hard.

I felt THAT! I wanted to go down to the altar and recommit my life bc I gave myself to my religions…COGIC, Non-Denominational (X2), and even Apostolic. This really blessed me . Thank you Tim and D1. Blessings upon both you and your loved ones.

ANOTHER powerful interview!!! I loved the chemistry in this conversation and even got teary eyed a few times when Dee 1 was talking about his family and him being blessed to be the vehicle used to give the men in his family the courage to honor their feelings by crying. This whole pod was very refreshing. Keep up the great work!!

Thank you for this beautiful conversation. I wish we could be best friends. Somehow, Dee entered into my youtube algorithm back in june and I've been consuming as much of his content as possible in 2x speed ever since. I'm from Buffalo, NY but i grew up with an invisible unexplainable heart level connection to New Orleans. Always researching it, doing projects on Louisiana culture in school, looking for any movie (I watched candyman a hundred times as a kid) or book that was about nola (which wasn't as easy in the late 1900s). I finally got to move near Baton Rouge from 2013 - 2018, but ended up back in my hometown as a result of my home flooding in 2016. but anyway... Once I heard that accent, I knew I was home again. I am soooo grateful to be in a generation where David Arnold Augustine Jr. is considering running for President in 2032. Do it Dee! We love you and need you!!
