Omy gosh in all my years of using thread for wind chimes and mobiles and now beads I never thought to condition it. Most jewelry demos say to run the thread through your fingers but so far nothing about waxing it, it went right past me I guess. Today I was using Fireline and it wa very smooth and straight but hard to handle for a newbie, I kept dropping the end and the beads went across the workbench a few times. Do you have any videos on the technique of getting the beads onto the needle without them having a mind of their own? I have not yet reached the learning curve and very frustrating to try to control them. Thank you for a practical and helpful video, sub and liked.

Hi Barbara I am so happy you found this useful. Now that I think about it, the struggle with the needle is very prominent. I will see if I can do a quick video for you on needle and beed control. Give me a little time to get around to it. I have my grandson here a lot and he is only 2 ... so not much work gets done lately but I am working on making more time this year. haha

Very helpful. I use Fireline or Wildfire most of the time. I fine that they both stretch. Does the thread stretch?

Hi Deborah, Nylon threads most definitely stretch. In the video I talk about how to pre-stretch and condition the thread. I also give a few pointers on when you may not want to use these threads. Hi. I am just getting interested in beading. Why is it necessary to wax the threads or wires for beading?

Hello Mairit, It is find it only necessary when using the nylon beading threads. The purpose it to help keeps the strands from fraying and separating as you work. A little goes a long way with the wax. Check out my latest videos for more discussion about the wax. I use in in the most recent and the next two videos coming this month. Hope this helps.

Can you use soy wax for conditioning the thread ?

In most instances bees wax or micro-crystalline wax are recommended. You can give it a try, but be mindful of how much wax is on the thread. After waxing, pull the thread through your bare fingers a few times to remove any excess. Please let me know in this thread whether the thread cooperates with soy wax, The goals of waxing/conditioning the thread is the make it less likely to fray and not as easy to split with your needle when you have to make multiple passes through the beads. This technique is used mostly on silk and nylon threads and the threads should also be pre-stretched as well. I hope this info helps you.
