The rulebook says you cannot accelerate off track regardless of whether or not you pick up a position. In fact, the rider could lose positions but if your rear wheel breaks traction you broke the rule you will be penalized. Period

Penalty is fair, kids is unprofessional and overly aggressive he’s gonna be on the back foot with the AMA and the other riders until he loses his attitude.

@@prophet8photo I think you should review the rules again to be sure, if my memory serves correctly it states, cannot accelerate off track AND gain an advantage, in short. Disclosure I have not reviewed the rule book in a while but that is how I read it last. But lets be honest, what is acceleration? increasing speed no matter how slow, by definition that is acceleration right? So I crash go off track have to get back on I start moving from a standstill that by definition is acceleration. I do not believe in this case the penalty was justified but this is my view and opinion, others feel differently but I don't believe your view on enforcing the rules are correct, my view.

Johhny, the rule by doesn't mean if you pass someone LOL. They look for roost coming off the tire for acceleration as an indicator. He was clearly in violation and gained an advantage. Every other rider that went off the track was evaluated as well.

We've got two young, talented stars of the sport. One of them grew up with a hard-working family, made real sacrifices to make his dream happen, and was groomed and mentored by Johnny O'Mara, a class-act and consonant professional. The other grew up with an anarchist/rebellious type Dad, wealthy and never wanting for anything, surrounded by the freestyle community and a Mom who is extremely vain. The differences are VERY APPARENT in the way they behave, and in my opinion, will be obvious in 5 years when one is breaking records to be the next GOAT and the other likely self-implodes.

I'm going to play devil's advocate on this one. I think the penalty was deserved. Not because he passed or didn't pass anyone, but because he took advantage of other riders. Hear me out. He wasn't pushed off track. He didn't feel like getting held up, so he drove off track intentionally to avoid waiting or going inside to get around the rider. That's what he should've done. Not make his own line off-track to avoid a hold-up. That's clearly cheating, I don't feel like it had to do with anything else but that clear and simple. He can't make up his own rules cause things aren't going his way. Don't get me wrong here, I'm a big Deegan fan and want him to win this year's championship, but I don't think he's humble or mature enough yet to take that crown. He needs to get faster and use better racecraft to win these races. The thing with Cody, was just a rasing incident. Deegan was hauling ass into that corner. No was he could've stopped fast enough to keep from making contact with Cody. Haye it for Cody, but that's racing sometimes.

A lot of people want to see Haiden succeed. His age and lack of experience are showing. Last year there was no pressure. His only goal was to develop. Now he has to perform, and the pressure is starting to show. This is what make a champion. Time will tell if he can overcome the pressure or just be over hyped and fall to the wayside.

idk why the deegan penalty is so talked about, its pretty cut n dry. Watch the kawi hit Bennick and those two are forced off the track. Deegan was in a panic and knew he couldnt make the rhythm after being slowed by those two and he chose to go off track with them. Nobody forced him off track.

I feel roost and tire spin are unfair criteria in the mud. I can see him rip a little braap right through a slippery spot and if you can resist that you have more self control than me. Plus in the mud it swaps and you need a little throttle to keep directional stability and a little wheel spin keeps the gyro flowing. A dry roost takes much more force than a wet one.

It has been mentioned that what the AMA specifically looks for to determine "accelerating offtrack" is a roost thrown off the bike. There was a roost before Deegan caught himself and then backed it off.

But had he stayed on track he would have been way further back than him going around that rhythm section were there were dozens of riders. This isn't later in the race when there's only a couple guys to judge if you're making advantage on

I thought the AMA rule is pretty clear and if you're off the track you need to re-enter at the safest point possible "without breaking traction." IMO it wouldn't of been such a stiff penalty if #38 didn't rail Cody Shock

Deegan is just ill behaved. I believe rules should be followed for everyone. I believe Deegan did indeed gain a position. The AMA has other video to look at, as I am sure they did. They have video from overhead of the entire track, I am sure they looked at that. They should have at least included a warning about his behavior with Seth, both for his conduct on track (pushing bike over) and his conduct afterward (approaching in the pits). To be honest, I am not a Deegan fan and I wasn't from the beginning. I am familiar with his KZbin and social media over the past several years and I had a strong feeling he was going to end up being a Kardashian of Motocross. It's looking ever more like that to me. Cody left the corner open and 38 was closing quickly. You can see Cody miss the rut, while 38 didn't. Racing incident. I agree with his track return- no penaly. He not only didn't get in front of those other 2 ryders as he left the track, he also didnt get passed the 2 guys in front of him as he left/reentered the track. Give 3 fines here is any. The rule isnt about positions gained or lost or not lost at all, its about accelerating off the track rather then getting back on as soon as you can then accelerating... Did he gain time from staying off track and accelerating compared to getting back on the track through that mess... the answer is yes hence the fine. As for the $1000 fine, i think its fair, they gotta nip they shit in the bud early on, its a bad look on the sport and a bad look to a lot of young fans who look up to someone like HD. And you can CLEARLY see that he wasnt pushed off the track at all... he rode off the track himself. HD and Coty... should of shut the door... if that was the 450 class theres a dozen riders who would of throw it up the inside. The first turn incident with hammaker... i can appreciate that Deegan had control of the corner... but if you control the corner you then need to hope that everyone else can see that you control the corner... if they cant youre fucked... a bit of spacial awareness and race craft would of told the 450 blokes this (except VF) and HD is faster then 95% of that field anyway so going in that corner without the wholeshot wouldnt of really been an issue anyway.

The Rough riding has to be Ok if it's Ok in the LCQ. See Swoll v Hymas for the proper response. On the start if you have a wheel on everyone you start moving over and choking them off. But if you cut from the middle to the chalk before you even get to the turn you're likely going to cause a crash. You can say it wasn't his fault but if it becomes a recurring issue it'll Deeg cutting over on whoever not Seth refusing to shut down for whoever got the jump on the outside of him.

Deegan got too aggressive trying to set the edge on the start and it cost him. It's on him. If he's sick of being in that position maybe he should do better in qualifying so he can get a better gate pick. And as for the point deduction, he clearly accelerated off track and spun the tire. Deegan 100% deserved the penalty, he could have easily made the obstical you show it clearly on the freeze frame he is high in the burm no one around him and yet cant break to aviod the minimal contact instead of checking up he then decides to exit the track and then lights up the rear tyre amongst officials...... what part of that scenario wasnt gaining advantage because he would have been passed by alot more riders if he stayed on track.

I believe it was 93 and the 75 that actually caused most of the riders to go off track. I am on the fence about Deegan getting docked. The issue i have is that Deegan followed directly behind Muñoz and Bennick was ahead of Muñoz. Out of those three it was Bennick that opened the throttle as he gapped Muñoz and Deegan on the side of the track and he did it so fast that if you werent paying attention, Dax was gone out of the camera frame before you may have seen him gap them. So i think Bennick should have at least been docked as many spots as Haiden.

@@davidvisagie it was the 93 and the 90 that came together in the bowl turn under Deegan and the 75 made 90 go off track but not before the 93's contact with 90 made 90 bump 59 making 59 the first off track and 93 was left blocking Deegan because the contact with either 90 or 75 turned him sideways and Deegan had to follow 90 to avoid plowing 93. Blame whoever you want but thats the play by play.

Deegan was pretty much at a stand still behind 93 and would not have ploughed into him, he decided to rather go off course, he was not bumped at all so this all his own choice, you can see he makes this decision with loads of room to spare and to save a second or 2 being behind 93 regardless of what has happened he defiantly had the option to stay on track, rules are clear any advantage gained by cutting track will be penalized, and its clear he entered the track in front of riders he was behind. that's frame by frame @@dougdickason

It was the other riders in front of him that he got ahead of...those 2 guys were able to get around the guys in front of deegan...there were many he was behind ( more than he got penalized for....) if he had stayed on track he would have been behind those 2 guys you used ...but also behind the guys he jumped in front of going off track.... this was a Fair and Just penalty..the video angle doesn't show all the riders to see properly ..

@@profutzer Deegan was behind #93 Bryce Shelly. Went off track, and rejoined ahead of him. He gained an advantage by going off track. He had to rejoin behind the #93 to have not gained an advantage.

yes he deserved the penalty, so did anyone else who went around the track. he gained an unfair advantage, plain as day. maybe he didn't gain any positions, but how many positions did he NOT LOSE by going around the track? I dare say more than a mere 2. the Schock thing was entirely on Schock. he left the door open, and Deegan took it. Schock make the mistake, and then tried to force himself to the inside line. there was plenty of room on the outside if Schock didn't want to risk the collision.

It's just as much for sideline worker safety as it is for getting an unfair advantage. Kicking up rocks, roost or potentially losing control. Can't gas it hard off track for ANY reason. Lastly, if only that was actually Haiden saying those things, and not his representation. ✌🏽

Deegan dashed into that last turn late where there wasn't room & took out shock. While aggressive I don't see a problem with it just as I didn't have a problem with Vince on that right hand turn which made it hard for Hunter to get to his back break & went down

Bro have you ever seen his corner speed lmao it’s the last turn last lap and Cody cut left because he knew he made a mistake leaving that line open. This is professional racing not Amateur racing bro. People hated this kid before he turned pro. if he just laid up and rode around in the back, they would be complaining that he’s too soft. He fought all the way to the end and saw a hole and made a pass. It’s Cody shock fault cutting left at the last minute into Deegan.

Deegan is acting his age. Jett acts more like a veteran (struggles sometimes, but hey). We are all viewed by others according to the sum of our actions. AMA saw Deegan push Hammaker's bike to the ground and likely viewed that as unsportsmanlike. AMA saw Deegan go to Hammaker's pits and likely saw that as unsportsmanlike. They saw Deegan make contact with Shock and may have considered that unsportsmanlike. When the night is over all of these events are in the minds of the one's making the decisions. "Jett will never be penalized" someone said. How quickly we forget. Jett waved Roczen by in the SMX play-offs. Although he was trying to be sportsmanlike to his very good friend Ken Roczen, he was penalized by the AMA for unsportsmanlike conduct. Better to be penalized for being a good guy, I say.

Flipping people off, cutting the track, pushing riders and track personnel, ending other riders seasons, going to another riders pits to escalate a situation and cause a scene. What other rider has brought so much negative attention to themselves this season for their immature and unprofessional antics? And doing so knowingly! For the girls sake they should have red flagged it and restarted. She also said in that video that she dove to get out of the way of the field which is why she went down. I think someone needs to look up the definition of t-bone, it was side to side contact. Not sure why Schock sent it off the track, unless he is new to racing and was startled in the moment, but those bikes do have brakes. The Eli moment was just reflexes on how to deal with that moment, nothing crazy about it.
