Alright, for anyone confused- when they say "cousin" they mean that as an honorary title, like calling your godfather/godmother uncle/aunt. Their parents are good friends and hosted him for a few years, essentially helping raise him. it's customary in Japan, but such titles are also used in say, Russia and other Slavic countries. Edit: read the manga since (it's epicly funny). His dad was adopted by Chisa's family.

Yep, from what I remember Iori's dad was adopted by the Kotegawas (Chisa and Nanaka's family). As far as I know dating/marrying first-cousins is legal in Japan, it's just...weird (for us at least)
