Fun Fact: Sam Jackson signed up for this movie to be eaten by the shark. He was actually supposed to finish his speech, but he encouraged the director to cut it. After the speech was cut, he called the director and gave him props for it. Another Fun Fact: Saffron Burrows was supposed to survive. But test audiences hated her character so much that demanded that she die.

Actually sharks are a lot smarter than most people think. Great Whites for example can learn, adapt, and create new hunting techniques for different environments they’re in, and they remember them even if they haven’t returned to that area for years.
@lennysavino5701
@lennysavino5701 3 жыл бұрын
I feel the environment doesn’t really determine the intelligence of an animal, but rather it’s body design and how it work. That said though I agree with you. People make a lot of assumptions about animals, and most of if not all of them are wrong. For example, people often are surprised when they learn an animal has a longer lifespan than a dog, when many species can easily outlive a human.

@Jo Ol Kinda like when people claim that sharks don't eat people....Sharks give a shit what they eat, they eat period, doesn't matter what it is, doesn't matter if something tastes good or not....Yeah there might be preferences, but they sure as hell don't care about eating a person. Food is food.

The mechanical sharks were beautifully made. The script, the top billed cast which we will never see again in this type of film, actually made it a pretty solid film with a bit of substance rather than half topless girls and bros and whatever getting eaten every five seconds. Also, the great Trevor Rabin's soundtrack was a MASTERPIECE. Warner put good money into this film and I personally appreciate it.

I love Deep Blue Sea so much. It’s such a dumb, fun B movie that isn’t trying to take itself seriously, or he taken seriously, and it subverts a lot of the tropes of this kind of movie. Also, Saffron Burrows was originally supposed to live, and LL Cool J was supposed to die, but in test screenings, audiences hated Saffron’s character so much, and loved LL’s character so much, they swapped the deaths. I admit I didn’t see that coming when I saw this in the theaters at all. Saffron was pretty popular back then, and she was the female protagonist and married to the director, so you just expected her to live. One of my favorite dumb B movies, and I feel like I haven’t seen many modern B movies nearly as entertaining. I appreciate that Renny Harlin just ran with it, because it’s such an absurd ass premise. I have a feeling the screenwriter pitched it as “Jurassic Park with sharks!” And Harlin read the script and was like, “Nah, this ain’t it, chief.”

The original ending was to have LL Cool J die and Samuel live but early viewers didn't like that idea so they switched the outcome and never told either actor. As for the parrot constantly saying, "Eat me ***hole" he had it coming.
