You guys were a bunch of locksmiths with all the keys you had in this vid. You unlocked plumb. You’ve moved on to expert JMI level.

Mesmerizing examination of the album. Felipe, FYI, Brown Doves was the last song recorded in the session.

Praise, gentlemen, for spotlighting, with such care and passionate detail, an iconic recording! David Murray is one of the greats-saw him perform in NYC last summer. Explosive beauty!

Thanks for the exposition; I ordered my copy while playing the video. But to return to Questlove's fame, to my mind his association with Jimmy Fallon is nothing to be proud of. Frat boy Fallon has a recurring segment on his show called Do Not Play. This segment, which frequently has Questlove joining in, has Fallon playing the briefest of segments from recordings, many of them by completely unknown artists. I only learned about this after the controversy following his mockery of Peter Brötzmann Sextet / Quartet‘s 1969 free jazz album Nipples. For that he was roundly slammed and apparently has taken down the video associated with it. Brotzmann doesn't need defending but the countless lesser known victims of Fallon and Questlove's malice do. Questlove acts as his J.D.Vance, joining in the cruelty of mocking artists who likely will never have another chance at on air time, who may even have gone into debt to make that one record that Fallon gleefully mocks. As a musician Questlove has some explaining to do for his willingness to go along with this cruel exercise.

The record didn’t speak to me overall, but I did really enjoy some of the moments on it. I have massive respect for JMI and the artists that made the music. Thanks for the nice analysis

My copy of this box set (ordered direct from JMI) also came with a Vic Firth ?uestlove model drum stick. Pretty cool.

@thomashertl3037 vor 0 Sekunden Just finished my first pass thru the entire album, and I feel that I need another pass which I need to do after a longer break. Deep listening can be quite exhausting, as you bums surely will appreciate. Upfront I can say that I am kind of speechless if I had to do an intense review right away, like you did so well, but I am inclined to already call it a runner for my LP release of 2024 choices. (My last years‘ winner was the Fire! Ochestra‘s Echoes album and I can hear some interrelationship between the two). Anyways, well done, bums. Indeed, I have bought Plumb based on your review, and I am so eager to further go along that discovery journey with all ears wide open.

Truly a one of its kind recording! All three musicians are spectacular on this session. Each adding their unique flavors throughout this four record set. Thanks for the review here and I agree with most of your comments. It would be amazing to see this trio perform live!

Just saw David Murray live playing with Kahil El'Zabar last month in a small venue, un-amplified. One of my favorite shows of the year so far. His tone is so wonderful….. thanks for doing this video. I’ve streamed the record, but I think it’s one I need on vinyl for sure. It would be wonderful if you could interview any of these 3 for a special JB video.

As a fan of foremost 50s and 60s jazz, it was about time to give the „new“ cats the opportunity to win my heart, and that LP box set release did it, by a storm. Plumb, 5 Minute …, Pink Noise, e,g., are so good and my picks when I want to demo that new music to others. Was somewhat skeptical when I learned after I ordered the set that JMI chose that unpopular plating and pressing plant. They are not great pressings for that high price set (sharp edges cut seam splits in those wonderful inner sleeves) but they are reasonable flat and have low unwanted noise floors. Still, such wonderful analog produced music and lp/box cover art deserve a better pressing treatment going forward.

Chris Brown loved this as well. Seems unanimous from people I respect.
