Great video guys, really interesting to put the great man’s work in chronological order. I think that during the gap between Blue Train and Soul Train, Coltrane was playing with Monk. There was the Carnegie Hall live set that was released on Blue Note a few years ago, recorded Nov 1957. Looking forward to parts 2&3 👏👏

Well done guys essential listening. I love this period of Coltrane and regularly dip into the 12 Lp box set released on Presige label in Germany from 1984. Great value if you can track it down called The Leader Sessions and documents all his sessions as a leader with prestige as the title suggests . 🔥

Great time in Coltranes cart. Blue trane being a classic of the time.

Just to add to JB Chris’s point about “Blue Train” that was one of Curtis Fuller’s first sessions (if not his first). He literally exploded onto the scene - we are so lucky to have the “Blue Train” session. Can’t wait for the next episodes.

It was early indeed. Blue train was recorded in 9/57 but Sonny’s Crib was likely the first in 7/57. Thanks for watching! F

Great topic choice - JC is one of the greats with distinct eras and periods of great change and innovation (side work with Miles and then Monk followed by his three eras on Prestige, Atlantic and Impulse with a Blue Note session wedged in) Looking forward to how you weave it altogether

Does anyone have the ‘58 Box Set (vinyl/cd) put out by Craft? It’s a cool way to listen to his Prestige releases as a leader in a linear progressive fashion. I have the vinyl, it’s a beautiful set.

@@michaelmoon2342 I don’t, but that sounds like a great way to go through those sessions. Very cool! - Mike
