Great video. If you want to fish in heavy weeds try throwing your favorite Ned baits on a Jika rig. Owner jig rig works well. I would try staying with a standard plastic or Elaztec type bait as long as the body is ribbed. Hook ups with super plastic baits are more difficult with light tackle using a Texas rigged Jika. By the way the Japanese baits you mentioned work great with this set up.

Interesting! I thought Ned rig was better thrown on a medium light or light power rod because of the weight of ned rig.

Not a really big spinning rod guy, but I picked up an SLX spinning rod half off over the winter, so I picked up some ned stuff. Haven't had it out yet cause I picked up an Expride Heavy on sale too, and I've been enjoying that too much. Definitely going to give neds an honest go this year though.

Dude a tungsten Ned head from swagger will definitely give you more feel on the bottom…I fish a Ned almost 365 days a year and make my own heads as well.I use the same NRX+ and P5s you do and there is definitely a difference. With that said I’ll only use the tungsten on deep lakes and stick with the lead in the river 🎣 Great video man I’m a big fan ! But you knew this was coming from someone lol..keep up the good content Brian

I have heard several “Pro’s” talk about almost swimming the Ned and keeping it right off the bottom is the real “secret” to fishing it correctly as intended. Hence the light weight heads and floating plastic. Really wasn’t ever intended to be a bottom contact bait. It’s been a killer bait for me on suspended bass doing just this tactic.

The slow fall is really important IMHO. I've confirmed this with my forward facing sonar.

@@PunchFishing man exactly!! It completely blew my mind once I dedicated a couple hours trying this exactly as you mentioned. It almost felt like cheating and actually caught 2 that were 6+ on lake chickamauga. I’ve always got it tied on now although I run it more on a BFS type setup just for more entertainment lol. Only time I size up on the heads is if there is current or wind is killing me. Punch your 100 on that man it murders on FFS setups.

I don't think a lot of people use it, but the Savage Gear Salamander is probably the best ned rig bait I've found. They're a little more expensive than most, but they're made of a plastic like Elaztech called Dura tough. I highly recommend you try them!

Thanks for the info. I have used many finesse baits, but I am totally new to the Ned rig. After watching this, I saw some Z-man TRD at my local Wal-Mart and thought I would give them a try. Only had three colors and two jig head sizes, but I did get the copertreuse and PB&J along with the 1/15 Oz head. I just put the Vanford 2500 on my Legend elite panfish, so I figured I would try the rig on that rod, as the bass in one of the local places I go are still on the small side. I ended up catching 8 bass from 8-11 inches today, which is alot of fun on the light action rod. Thanks again, I will have to place an order for some better jigheads and various other baits and colors.
