Love the way you made that jig. Thanks for the idea

You always do a very nice and professional presentation. Thank you!

Greart job on the project and I like the jig you used. My mother used an end grain cutting board for nearly 50 years and didn’t have a problem with anyone getting sick. She washed it as soon as she got done cutting meats and about 2 or 3 times a year my dad would sand it and re-finish them.

Very nice work as always. I like that added base to the router, sure would add to the stability of it

These new cordless palm routers have amazing power and battery life, but the tiny bases are annoying. The StabilMax really takes them to another level of value.

As always, nice work! I like the Makita battery powered router. I have the corded version, very true, smooth and near zero runout. Now, if I only had thickness planer to make cutting boards!

Watch next week. I'll show you an alternative to the thickness planer.

Only issue is that end grain cutting boards are not supposed to get juice grooves due to contamination issues. Long grain boards are the better, recommended choice for juice grooves. Been that way in the 50+years I have worked with and made. (People will argue, but I worked in places where the health department made it financially clear, it was not safe).

Absolutely NOT TRUE

Wrong wrong and more wrong. Your old is showing. Pipe down.

@@bfirefighter3 picture bundled straws, as the grain of the wood.. the liquid passes to the center and sits in the endgrain, including bacteria. When cut lengthwise, it stays near the surface. It’s why the old butcher blocks were scraped down, immediately!! after each use. I hated that part of the job, especially when they started to dish. Tables, cutting boards and benches were all long grain, for that reason, not saying why because of my age, but my experience.

BTW, a couple of researchers at UCLA requested all of the information the USDA had on cutting board food safety. There was no empirical data - NONE! They performed their own experiments and concluded that wood cutting boards are not more dangerous than poly/plastic ones. In fact, woods with high tannin content such as oak killed or inhibited the formation of bacteria. Now, don’t be an idiot and make a salad on the same board that you just cut up a chicken on. I’ve been using wooden cutting boards for decades. The government can certainly enforce food safety standards and regulations in restaurants, etc. however I do what I please in my own home.

If you feel your math skills aren’t great for the template dimensions, you could draw it on a piece of paper and lay it out and see if it’s right before diving further.
@joewink20886 ай бұрын
Can you do this and use with a shaper origin?
@WoodpeckersLLC6 ай бұрын
Sure can. Of course, you don't need the template. Just do the math to locate the center of your juice groove, grid your board, create the appropriate square and place it, then cut the groove.

I would Have just put multiple pieces of wood on each strip, then used the exacto to cut them apart / trim the edges .
@daveklein28268 ай бұрын
Well then do it your way
@WoodpeckersLLC8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I could have placed at least two per piece of tape, but I'm not sure I could have done that in front of a camera without saying words that would have had to be edited out.
@daviddetomas36458 ай бұрын
Why didn’t you put them small pieces together put the tape over to them at a time cut them apart and you don’t waste all that tape
@WoodpeckersLLC8 ай бұрын
That would certainly work to get two out of one piece of tape. Would take a little more time to get them aligned.
