Hi Joe & Audrey, I'm from the UK🇬🇧 and follow your channel religiously. I hold the USA 🇺🇸 close to my heart after numerous visits! If I had my time again, I would seriously consider a permanent move. I'd also like to tell you about my aunt who was also called Audrey, and lived in a lovely part of Massachusetts, called Marlborough. The name Audrey brings back the fondest of memories for me. Love watching and listening to your channel. Keep up the great work🇬🇧🇺🇲. A very Happy Birthday Audrey 🎂 X.

In 1967 I was 10 years old in 5th grade at St Catherine of Sienna School, Metairie, Louisiana. Mrs. Breaux was my 5th grade teacher. At the end of the day she gave a nickel to one of the students to walk to the coke machine in the hall by the cafeteria, and buy a coke in a 6 oz glass bottle. Remember you could return coke bottles to grocery stores and get one or two cents for them making the coke even cheaper. It was always an honer to be chosen to go get her coke. So cokes were still 5 cents in 1967 in Metairie Louisiana. PS, Audrey is one of my favourite women’s names. You don’t run into many Audreys anymore.

Hi there, Joe & Audrey and Happy Birthday to you Audrey, too!!! I was just a kid in the 50’s and some sodas were still 5 cents when we could afford to splurge to buy them. Also, candy bar and ice cream cups with a wooden spoon were 5 cents. Some pieces of candy were just a penny! Nehi Pops had an amazing assortment of flavors in their unique shaped bottles!! Thanks for showing us around the Canton Trade Days, really mind-blowing experience!! Safe Travels!!!

Wow! Hey Lord, I'm a "Railfan", and that passenger train had a rare mix of cars. Although it is an Amtrac Train, the first three cars behind the engine are actually privately owned train cars. I know from past experience. An owner of those old train cars can pay Amtrac to attach them to a scheduled route. Seriously, not being funny. Excellent video too!!!

What a blessing for a man to have a charming daughter with a radiant smile. It's evident she's fond of her father and genuinely enjoyed a day out with him. Those wide brick roads in the center of Wills Point will never wear out since the friction they mainly get is from rolling rubber tires. Great investment by the town in 1922. I also found appealing the town's raised sidewalk with canopied store fronts the whole length, some wooden, propped by poles at the sidewalk's edge. Reminiscent of classic 19th c. Texas towns seen in pictures and movies. Grand Saline! Sitting on a subterranean mountain of salt big enough to provide the world's needs for 20,000. years. An amazing fact! Loved the story behind the 'sweetheart plot' and the marvelously carved headstones. East St. Louis? Right! I'll be there.

First off, Happy Birthday Audrey! Second off, I love your videos, especially the Texas ones. I spent a lot of time in small town Texas as a kid in the 70's and early 80's, including Wills Point. I was told that old theater was the longest running movie theater in the USA, who knows if that was true or not. I just remember being frustrated as a teenage punk rock skateboarder that there was almost no asphalt in that town! Brick streets, wood sidewalks, gravel roads....

Canton started out as a meeting place early on, when farmers and ranchers from all over the surrounding area needed a designated officiant for various legal requirements, I believe the judges would commit to being there on the first Monday of every month. This evolved into these folks bringing goods along to trade with other folks, hence the term "Trade Days". If you lived out in the middle of a rural area there back then, and you needed to see the judge for whatever reason, chances are you would load your wagon with whatever goods you were interested in selling or bartering, so your long trip out to see the judge could also be spent engaging in commerce. Also, 'Flea Market' is an old term out of Europe, during the warmer months, people would sell used items in the town square when fleas were known to emerge from stored blankets and clothing as the warm weather hit.

Happy belated Birthday, Audrey. You got your mama’s good looks. I’m sure you appreciate your daughter accompanying you as driving long distances can be quite boring. I’ve lived in Texas all my 73 years and have heard of, but never visited Wills Point. Nor have I ever visited Grand Saline. You said, “I want to see the salt.” You should have said, “I wanna sea salt”. You’d probably not be very popular there 😁. Thanks for taking the time to share your video with us. Keep ‘em coming, please. I’m sure I speak for many when I say, “I’m loving ‘em”!

I moved from Dallas after being born and raised there all of my life up North and I am SO glad I moved. It's not for everyone. I use to go back every year to see my family and seen it go downhill fast. I hadn't been back in a few years until recently and there isn't anything I like about it anymore. It just seems so ghetto now, all of Dallas, it doesn't seem taken care of anymore.

I live in Tyler. A few years ago, a downtown circa 1890 building was renovated. I snuck inside one evening after a door was left open. There were bricks, so many old, original unused bricks inside that had not been cemented into place. They were stamped Corsicana Cherry Reds. I looked up the history, apparently someone in Corsicana back then had discovered a natural red clay pit in the earth there that could be used to make these bricks. They were used all thru this area of Texas to build with and pave the roads. Perhaps that is what was used there at Wills Point to pave those roads then.

At 4:17, you see the original doorway posts that are now painted white. Those are very old, they are made of iron, I believe. You can find them all over the U.S., in the 1800's they were marketed to builders out of foundries, along with wrought iron fencing. They helped reinforce the structure and they were designed to also mimic the look of carved wood. They date from the mid 1850's onward, and I believe they were manufactured either in Kansas or Ill. I want to say Kansas. They were an important technological achievement, because the era prior many town squares were comprised of simplistic construction such as log cabin design that did not last.
