I love Bronk's insights, but I would advise that he actually look of a map of what Ukraine occupies in Kursk. It's not "a giant salient" with a greatly increased frontier; if anything, they're shaping it to make their borders significantly more defensible. They're pushing to make the Reka Seym their northern border in the western part of the incursion, for example, which is far more defensible than the farms, etc that make up the current border. Also, Ukraine hasn't been able to fortify their current border because you can't operate with engineering equipment that close to the front. Lastly, they're pushing Russian long-range artillery and surveillance away from Sumy. The positions Russia is currently pounding, they'll have to pay to rebuild, and they're creating their own refugees, whereas when they strike in Ukraine, it's the inverse. And with regards to the civilian population... there's hardly anyone there (it was rural to begin with), mainly the elderly are left, and Ukraine is setting up evacuation corridors. One could point out that under international law, Ukraine has the right to tax and (non-destructively) utilize Russian resources in the occupied territory (including, at least theoretically, transiting gas) for the purpose of rebuilding that territory. So while Ukraine is there, to the degree that it's possible, they can drain the local resources in that manner to undo the damage Russia does trying to dislodge them.

Everyone says the F-16 isn’t going to be a game changer. Well of course not but all it takes is an increased edge over your opponent and return from an engagement. The aircraft they’re getting are Nordic and they take very good care of their aircraft. I’ve worked with aircraft from Denmark, Norway and a few others. You could drop a piece of candy in the cockpit, pick it up and eat it without wiping it off. I was hoping they would have gotten some F/A-18 since we have quite a few that will be retired over the next few years because of the F-35. Ward, I’m one of the flight test engineers at PAX ensuring the warfighter gets the best tools so they can return from an engagement. Almost all of my colleagues subscribe to your channel because of the lack of BS and you deliver the best gouge on YT.

The Gripen Fanboys and Girls don't grasp the fact that there are almost NO availability of Gripens. lets go over the numbers Sweden Gripen C 71 and all to be upgraded to E, NEW Gripen E 0/70 on order and Gripen D 23. Brazil Gripen E 6/22 +72more to be made and Gripen F 0/8 to be made. Czech Gripen C 12 and Gripen D 2. Hungary Gripen C 12 and Gripen D 2. South African Gripen C 2/15 in storage and Gripen D 1/8 in storage. Thailand Gripen C 7 and Gripen D 4. so of the 300=ish production numbers Gripen C 119 and Gripen D 40 = 159 Gripen C Gripen E 6 made /162 on order Gripen F 0/8 on order = 170 most of them still to be made. so at best we could MAYBE get 10 to 15 overpriced Gripen C and 3 to 7 Gripen D from South African. Sweden would maybe lease 7 Gripen C to bring it up to 1 squadron +1 with a VERY limited replacements jet. now Gripen higher spilt airducts, lower engine power, lower takeoff weight, low maintenance hours, with fewer grease monkeys than F-16 is not as big sailing point as you would think. F-16 have drag chute for short runways, even with lowering takeoff weight for shorter runways its at worse with same payload as the Gripen. F-16 can have the Taurus missile integrated into its system, IF big IF, it will ever come, Ukraine is more likely to get the US agm-158. so training 32 pilots for 16 Gripen that share armament with F-16 outside of Taurus KEPD 350 and meteor is waste of time and pilots

@@Justanotherconsumer What would removing Zelensky from Kiev accomplish for Putin at that time? Notice that Zelensky's main role has been to coordinate and negotiate for weapons to be sent to Ukraine. If Ukraine had remained headless, it would have been written-off by the West definitively. All the media and experts were already saying it would be a quick Blitzkrieg by Putin to Kiev, nothing anybody can do about it. The West even waited to see the inevitable fall of Kiev before doing anything much later, once it was clear Russia was utterly inept at war-fighting.

What good is it for us to be in a defense treaty with a continent of wimpy nations and having to listen to all their opinions? Maybe but doubtful. America has considered Ukraine's combat ineffective since the fall of Bukmute and the assertion that Abrams or F-16s in the first 1 and half years would have changed the manpower storage is highly expletive. Had Russia at any point built the Minefield the tanks would have been as worthless then as they are today. It's even worse today with thousands of drones flying around destroying armour like a knife through butter.

Bronk's analysis is always compelling and intensely logical. And it emphasizes just how much is at stake in the coming U.S. election. And I think he raises a great question: Why hasn't NATO been willing to put boots on the ground? Is it more fear of escalation or a lack of commitment? It seems that, if the goal is to neuter an imperialist Russia, we might want to consider a multinational force that would help Ukraine recover the separatist regions and Crimea. I bet that would get the Russians to the negotiating table quickly, especially if they can see those forces starting to mobilize in Europe and America. We could keep Western troops out of Kursk and simply help the Ukrainians hold the line in the Donetsk region so that they are free to work on Crimea. That is, we needn't put Western troops on actual Russian soil. But our presence would spell the end of the Russian strategy of attrition.
@Zomby_Woof
@Zomby_Woof Ай бұрын
The problem with boots on the ground not being allowed to operate of Russian territory is that Russia would then be able to only use a token defense on the border, and move the bulk of troops to Donetsk and/or Crimea. You would have to give the international force a free hand and have them fully prepared and equipped to engage Russian forces and dominate them in order to tie down Russian resources along the whole border. Putin must be presented with certain defeat before he's going to give up. That being the case, Ukraine must be given the assistance it requires to engage Russia and take Crimea, Donetsk and other Ukrainian territory by force. A lot depends on Putin's use of conscripts to engage Ukraine. If he is able to do so without raising political opposition internally, then how effective will they be. If they are wiped out on contact, and they likely will be, then Putin is screwed. The conscript pool is largely immigrants, and the pool is drying up since immigration essentially stopped in 2014 when Crimea was annexed.

@@Zomby_WoofGood analysis. Massive strategic errors by politicians to lead our response to the invasion with What We Will Not Do, thereby collapsing uncertainty and giving permission to the FSB run Crimlin. The US isn't short of pilots because of lack of training capacity; it's because of poor recruitment in all of the military. There may be plenty of people who want to be pilots, but there are not so many people who are qualified to enter the pipeline, and not so many who want to become crew.

Training is an issue too. Lots of peeps are complaining about a lack of flying hours, especially in the Guard and Reserve Squadrons which make up a good chunk of the total force.
@psychohist
@psychohist Ай бұрын
@@Ben1159a That's a slightly different meaning of "training" - it's more about maintaining proficiency of existing pilots than about training the pilots in the first place. It's not about "training capacity", but rather about funding for ongoing proficiency maintenance. Agreed those funds tend to be squeezed in Democratic administrations, which tend to cut proficiency training and maintenance funds as a way of cutting the overall Defense budget. Perhaps that's why Lindsey Graham is encouraging experienced F16 pilots to volunteer for the Ukraine foreign legion - they'd probably get plenty of intense flight hours there.

Where are you getting your data? There are more than enough qualified applicants for pilot training. Maybe not the military at large, but not a factor for pilot training. The issue is literally the number of training bases and hours in the day to get the everything done.

@@Flash-B1-6129 For example, even back in the 1980s, when we had a larger requirement for pilots, all Navy pilots were trained at Pensacola. The base hasn't gotten smaller and the number of hours in the day hasn't changed.
