Saw tHem for the first time in 1974 in my hometown of Chicago. The lead singer had been replaced by a guy by the name of David Coverdale who later formed Whitesnake, another banger of a band! Saw them again in 2016 and just this August outside of Houston, Texas. Three of the original members are still there and everyone's grey but they're still rockin'! Nice to see the younger generation enjoy the music that was part of my life!👍👍👍

Footnotes on Deep Purple: 1- A new studio version of ''Hush'' with Ian Gillan on vocals was included on the 1988 live album Nobody's perfect. 2- Don't miss the song ''Black night.'' It's a Deep Purple classic but often overlooked because you can't find it on any of the original albums. It was released as a single. 3- For the really crazy, mind blowing, not for TV material from 1970 go to the ''Live and rare'' album (released 1992.)

@metalteen. If you like Deep Purple, you'll love Ritchie Blackmore's other band, Rainbow which he started with Ronnie James Dio (also vocalist for Black Sabbath). Blackmore effectively created Neoclassical heavy metal with that band. Songs like 'Stargazer' or 'Gates of Babylon' by Rainbow will blow your mind.

Well done. Great live version of their best song imho. You should check out the album version with Blackmore's 3 minute solo... So much better, but the live vocal here beats that version. Alongside Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, this band is in that same tier.

Understanding matters. Context matters. Who, what, when, where and why needs to be asked while listening. Learn this and maybe then you will respect this more.
@bobthebomb1596Ай бұрын
Something that I never appreciated when I first listened to this song is context. Everything I had heard before was "shite" because this song came in an era when sound was improving and musicians were expanding what was possible, and it was awesome. Sound is so much better now and musicians have built on these guys and taken things forward. Music should always be listened to in the context of what was around at the time and these guys were as good as anyone in their era. For me, the combination of Gillan's voice, Lords Hammond and Blackmore's guitar has never been bettered in the rock world.

Glad you like great music. Deep Purple were so talented and with Black Sabbath, they're the creator of Heavy Metal. Speaking of Black Sabbath, I highly suggest you watch available on KZbin the Paris 1970 live version of their song War Pigs. Great live and Bill Ward is beating those drums like they owe him money. As for guitarists, I have 2 to recommend you, both excellent. The first one is Jeff Waters from the Canadian Thrash Metal band Annihilator. there is a KZbin video where he plays in his home for the camera the song from his band named The Trend. The music and singing is in the background while he plays live the main guitar and oh boy, this guy fucking RIPS. He might be the greatest Thrash Metal guitar player ever. The other one is someone that Jimi Hendrix said (and that's an actual quote): "He's a better guitar player than I am. He is the greatest electric guitar player in the universe." That man is Terry Kath from the rock band Chicago. There is on KZbin the video of their 1970 performance live in Tanglewood of their song: 25 or 6 to 4. The extended solo from Terry. Damn, it's guitar paradise.

Gracias por reaccionar a Deep Purple 💜. Banda prodigiosa, extraordinaria. Otra vez, GRACIAS!! Por traer a mi banda favorita a tu canal ❤ 💜💜💜💜💜

7:45 - This is a TV performance and back then all TV audiences where either aunties and grannies or kids under 15. That woman in blue must be the mother chaperoning her daughter who has a crush on Gillan and the kids in shirt and tie are there because she couldn't find a babysitter. Often these TV shows were of the variety kind, recorded in the daytime and aimed at an audience used to crooners, magicians and dog acts. I first saw those clips in the 80s when in my big Deep Purple phase and my reaction was exactly like yours: ''WTF's wrong with these people, do they have any idea?!'' In 1970 the hard Rock scene was new, DP mark II had just released their first album ''In Rock'' and mainstream TV didn't really know how to deal with the whole thing. Watching early Zeppelin TV performances you'll find the same public made of bored housewives, clearly asking themselves ''Where's 'Downtown' Petula Clark?!'' But at least they played live, none of that 60's lipsinc bullshit. And ten years later there was a guy going: ''Yeah man, I saw Purple when I was 7!'' PS - Watch ''NEW * Hush - Deep Purple {Stereo} 1968.'' Deep Purple mark I: 100% lipsinc, bad fake playing (see Blackmore's face at 0:40 🤣) and stereotypical TV set-up...but look for the Black dude in white: he sure digs it!

Blackmore's effortless shredding. And Ian Paice..good lord (no pun intended)! Few drummers could drive a song like him.
