Ian has one of the best voices in rock. And this is my favorite Deep Purple song. His voice is haunting 🖤

This song was written and recorded in 1969..it is about war, specifically the Cold War.

Another classic from Deep Purple!! If you like Ian Paice's vocals, then you will also enjoy the song Strange Kind Of Woman, from the Made In Japan album, 1972!! Ian on vocals and Ritchie Blackmore on guitar go back and forth with each other!! But back in these few years here, all 5 band members were at the top of their game, they knew how to jam !!

You should do Strange Kind of Woman from their live Made in Japan album. It features a call and response section between Ian Gillan on vocals and Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. How they match each other note for note is phenomenal. There is no video of the performance but the following link is mashup using video from another show in Copenhagen eith the audio from Made in Japan… kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpOnd2h-ZcaMoc0

The Unholy Trinity: as they were called. Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple. In the US, Sabbath and Ozzy are adored, Zeppelin were (to be fair) sexy and diverse. Purple, my band. were just the best live act you'd ever see. And most of they're albums are golden. Sabbath and Zeppelin are superb, but there is only one Purple. (I may be very biased)

Not playing perfectly is a big part of Rock music. Of course there is perfected Rock music too. But rawness is the essence. Mistakes are good. Perfection can lead to boredom. And by the way, it's a Hammond organ.

Nice reaction ,Thanks 👍Yes this was the real hard rock work of the early seventies. It was until 74 that they released good albums. Then things started to change. The singer Ian Gillan and guitarist Richie Blackmore had conflicts and Gillan left the band. but came back later and many changes followed! I'd like to see "highway star live" next🤘kzbin.info/www/bejne/bauucoZtjbSKl7M

This is a riff Deep Purple ripped off from a song called Bombay Calling by a band called Its A Beautiful Day, much as Smoke on the Water riff, is a rip of a bossa nova by Carlos Lyra. Unlike Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple was always upfront about the music they stole.😮
