I once very nearly landed in Jakarta. For the last 20 years, i have an unpopulated square mile to myself. The highway doesn't come here, yet i can hear travellers distant, and an occasional headlight sweeps a far mountainside, at night sometimes. There are so many roads... Choose wisely. Band name is because guitarist Richie Blackmore’s Grandmum’s favorite song was ‘ Deep Purple’ made popular by brother and older sister singing act ‘Nino Tempo(age 86)& April Stevens(age 92)’, from Niagara Falls, New York.

In the 1970's there was this goofy TV talent show called "The Gong Show". Sort of an ancient forerunner to "America's Got Talent". One of the amateur performers did a crazy dance routine to Highway Star. It was very well done. But what surprised me the most was hearing my favorite DP song on TV for the very first time. I had only heard it on vinyl record before from my older brother's vast hard rock record collection.

At last! My favorite DP song! Back in 1978, DP released a compilation record called, "When We Rock, We Rock and When We Roll, We Roll". It had all of their hits (except Lazy), and included a live version of Highway Star (probably a good move since every DP fan likely already had a copy of the Machine Head album version). I can't recall if the live version used was the same one as their Made In Japan album despite the 5 second length difference between them. But its my favorite live version of Highway Star. Rock on, girl!😃
