Yes, Glenn is without question one of the great screamers in rock history. His nickname is “The Voice of Rock”. He has about 15 solo albums also and has done three albums with Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi. The next song in this concert has very good vocals also and very good organ. I think you would enjoy it: “Might Just Take Your Life” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3WoaoqLrd6sd9U

All that is said is true. You can watch the full Concert video and the best part of the show ocurrs at the last song that is called SPACE TRUCKIN'. Ritchie was very angry with the organizers of the California Jam Festival, and decided to take revenge. First went on to the camera man and smash his guitar several times until they broke (both the guitar and the camera) He torn two more guitars into pieces and threw one to the audience. Then with the help of his roadie put the stage in fire with two big explosions, while the rest of the band continued playing. That was amazing, you have to watch it. I'm a Deep Purple fan since I was 13, and I'm so glad you like this music and be so passionate in your reaction. Thank you for sharing.

Ian Paice was one of the main reasons that I took up drumming. No, I'm nowhere near his level, even after all these years. The man is a phenomenal player. Jon Lord was the best rock keyboardist ever. Blackmore has a mercurial personality...but is still one of the greatest guitarists ever. Coverdale was good, but Gillan was the 'golden throat' of rock. Hughes was a great bassist with a hell of a voice. His screams were almost on par with Gillan's. I actually got to see the Mark II (Gillan, Glover, Blackmore, Lord, Paice) version of Deep Purple back in the early 70's. Great show.

Omg, you are so adorable sweetie, totally love your awesomeness as a headbanger. An interesting fact about the singer that replaced Ian Gillan, Dave Coverdale later formed another awesome band called Whitesnake which had some of the best guitarists in the band. Keep that amazing smile going it really helps make my day go great. I love to see this younger generation looking into the classics and not getting into the mainstream garbage that is out there. There are so many bands to check out that were phenomenal but were very underrated. UFO is one of my all time favorites because of the german guitarist Micheal Schenker who brought to the stage of rock some of the most amazing riffs that many of today's bands use. Thin Lizzy was also another band you gotta check out as well.

Really suprised about your carefully listening, to every fact about the instruments playing among the vocals, so stunning. The very first appearence of David Coverdale in US, and singing to a massive audience, up to 250.000 people, in the Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario, California, April 1974. California Jam Festival. Some claimed that the sound was enough loud even 1.6 miles away from the stage. Amazing!!!.

Elok, True about Ritchie Smash his Fender into the camera then straight into the camera lens. Then Ritchie told his Roadie to poor petrol on empty cabinets which exploded intensely than expected. it knocked off Ian Paice glasses off and pushed Ritchie towards the front of stage.. This was during the elongated Space Truckin tune towards the end.. Then they had to make a way of escape immediately into a helicopter before the Fuzz we're to Arrest Ritchie.. Cheers

I did not see this lineup of Deep Purple. I saw Mark II. I thought I saw them in 1975 but it must have been in 1972 or 1973. I know it was before I saw Grand Funk Railroad but after so many years I forget. lol. Great background of the group also that you did. I still get like you do when I hear this so your expressions and smile may never go away ;-) We want you to go through all these groups of the 60s and 70s in a month or so lol. I have seen them live. This was a band that could play anything and make it sound good. They are rightly considered one of the greatest hardrock/metal bands ever yet I don't thing they fulfilled their true potential. Only god knows what they were able to if they had gotten their internal struggles sorted out. They could have been even better. One of the drawbacks is that they played insanely loud in live settings .. I felt like I was being mauled into submission. They wanted it to be a physical experience as much as a musical one. They took these fairly complicated songs (some of them anyway) and just blew everyone away. Everything was so easy for them. One of the greatest live bands of all time. They were better live than on records. I remember them fondly. The drummer is one for the ages. Cheers!

Hello 😊 my name is Sonny☀️ I was at that concert in 1974 🎶😘 my daughter Sommer, born on a sunny summer day in July, was looking out her bellybutton window, her mother was 6 months pregnant and I dragged her there, there was a lot of nude streakers, they did set stage on fire 🔥 for a song but quickly tried to put it out with fire extinguishers…it was at Ontario motor speedway with about 350 thousand people attending! 😳🤪 Black Sabbath played before Deep Purple and ELP was after them…I was upset about the change in singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover, but they’re back with them now along with drummer Ian Paice, keyboardist John Lord died a few years ago…they’re still playing concerts and touring the world a new record out last year…I lived in Anaheim, California and was only 20 minutes away from Cal Jam in 1974…my daughter is 48 now and I am 69 and Deep Purple was my favorite band! 🎵🥰 I was a Highway Star! …and nobody was gonna take my car, my girl or my hair! 🤪🌈😘

I thought you would enjoy this song! Ritchie Blackmore’s guitar tone through the Mark 3 era was killer. The entire set was released on VHS in the 1980s and later released on DVD, and it is well worth watching. You can see Ritchie’s animosity for that cameraman building during the performance, as he kept giving the guy baleful looks. David Coverdale went on to form the band Whitesnake, which had John Lord and Ian Paice in the group for a while. The band went hair metal in the late 1980s, and you might like listening to the hit “Still of the Night”. It sounds a lot like Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog”, and has been described as the best song Led Zeppelin never wrote. Rock on! 🤘🏻

Great song! - Hi energy performance from amazing musicians! Glenn Hughes's musical scream is classic! Live is great however I prefer the studio version (especially the guitar solo) better.

After Ritchie pre-warned the camerman not to get between himself and the crowd, an unheeded caution, Ritchie got frustrated with the continual intrusion and smashed his guitar on the camera and pushed it down the lens. The explosive incident was caused by Ritchie having a dummy Marshall stack covered in petrol and then pyro ignited by his roadie, unfortunately there was a bit too much! Ian Paice lost his glasses, Ritchie burnt his own hair, the stage was on fire and the camerman was deafened by the explosion. The band were helecoptered away before arrests could be made.

He was in a bad mood prior to going on stage lol his tour manager had lied to him , that they were booked to go on stage at dark ! then they were forced to go on early which he hated . Then one of the concert big shots told him to play up to the camera's !! when he got on stage . Then to top it off the camera man was in his face with that huge camera the whole show . He finally had had enough and put the headstock right through the camera .

@Dibbdroid 2 жыл бұрын
@@SJ-ty5rw His tour manager didn't lie to him, they signed a contract with the promoters to be the first band on stage when it got dark but the concert was so well organised (the stages were on train rails) it was running way ahead of time. to quote David Coverdale: "We were supposed to go on stage at sunset. That was actually written into our contract. But the California Jam was running ahead of schedule.”

@@Dibbdroid Ritchie gives an interview , where he has says the tour manager didn't listen to him about the after sunset request . You may be right about the facts . But Ritchie didn't put it that way . That's where i got the info his interview on it .

Hi Elok! Check out Jon Lord`s BOUREE from his soloalbum Sarabande. A unique piece. It`s a little jazzy, rocky and orchestral artwork with an oriental touch. I am sure, you will love it. Greets from Bavaria/Southgermany. Stay cool!

OK, I found a link of Jon Lord and Glenn Hughes, the guy playing the bass and singing occasional vocals on “Burn” telling the story of the incident in Jakarta. And it’s cool because there’s footage from your country. It was 1975 actually. Here’s a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gai8gWuLaNCjqdU

This was California Jam 1. This concert, and California Jam 2 were 2 of the biggest concerts in history. Cal Jam 2 had the largest sound system in all of history. They should of had GFR. (Grand Funk Railroad) on the list. Led Zeppelin actually kicked Grand Funk Railroad off their tour as their opening act in the early 70's because the audience liked them better than Led Zep.

@@BeeLineEast Yes, I do think Elok would enjoy the 1969 Bilzen Deep Purple performance of “mandrake root“ or “wring that neck”. Good close-ups, good guitar work and good organ, not to mention drumming.
