I remember when I first bought Purpendicular, this song stood out...and it's still my favorite Morse-era tune. Too bad they rarely play it live...saw the band for a 3rd time recently...amazing musicians. Long Live Deep Purple.

Without a doubt, "Loosen My Strings", by the biggest Classic Rock group in the world, Deep Purple, is one of their best songs. The best is impossible to say. If you quote "Highway Star", "Black Night", "Perfect Strangers", "Burn", "Stormbringer" and 20 more, someone will still say "you forgot the super classic Smoke on the Water". With reason. You should never pick just 20 or 30 of your songs as the best. All are BETTER. It's like having to choose who's the best DP musician. Ian Gillan? John Lord? David Coverdale ? Steve Morse ? Ritchie Blackmore ? Not. ALL are the best! See how interesting: in this particular song, with the absence of Ritchie Blackmore, the greatest guitarist in the world, Steve Morse surpasses himself and Ritchie's absence is not even felt.
