Thank you for this review with your insights. Ian Gillan has never been overly concerned about his appearance, but please bare in mind that the guy is painting words over the cracks of a widower's grief

I saw them again in 2022 with Simon and the musical wizzards still play superb and Ian even got applause from Roger. The 2 new songs are fantastic so I'm looking forward to the whole record and their gig in Oktober. They played very good last weekend on Graspop too!

That lovely outro is, in fact, an intro to another song on the album... something that I cannot recall Deep Purple doing very often before, if at all. This song is another banger IMO. Looking forward to the album. Agree with you about House of Blue Light; I love Bad Attitude, but Ritchie's not very good solo on that song was a taste of things to come on that album... THANKS FOR THE VIDEO, Nick; excellent stuff and very informative.

I almost come to think of Beatles in some parts. I am sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun. When the sun don't com I get a ball from slamming in an English wall.

I like Pictures of you over Portable Door - your video helped me to understand why. The structure of the song made it a little bit unpredictable, in the realms of a commercial single. And that it's a smart choice in my opinion. Good reaction sir, thanks a lot.

Beautiful song. And that outro is out of this world. But I don't think it's Blackmore's style, I think it's a tribute to Steve Morse sound.

Awesome video. “Call of the wild” was a bit naff for sure. I do like “Strangeways” from that album. I like this, definitely a “bad attitude” vibe. Also the middle eight bit, especially the outro of it sounds like solo Gillan, a mix of “One eye to Morocco” and “Cherkazoo”. I believe that it is “Portable Door” this leads into. I really liked that one. Incidentally I love you are using Paice, Ashton, Lord” as your intro music. Keep up the work! Cheers, Mike!

I re-recorded Silas And Jerome with a few friends for the intro. Thank you for noticing. You are I think, only the third person to do that!

House of Blue Light doesn't have a bad song on it. Side one slightly better than side two. Spanish Archer best track on the album. Call Of The Wild a decent song.

Don't think Gillan even liked Call of The Wild.

As much as I love DP this song is a bit disappointing to me. Solid but boring and nothing really happens. No solos, no unison interesting organ/guitar runs. The ending was nice especially with volume swells, has potential but doesn't really go anywhere.

Call of the Wild had no right being on a DP record. All songs from Shades to Perfect Strangers are worthy then HOBL begins great then the 3rd track occurs and they have their 1st gaff. Hated Wild in 87', hate it even more in 2024.
