“Oh Well” is a song originally written and recorded by Fleetwood Mac. It is accompanied by a music video that shows Deep Purple on a very special mission.
Label and management would like to state that nobody from the band or crew, nor members of the media, were hurt during the shooting of the video in Germany in early October.
“Everyone knows ‘Oh Well’ is a great song,” Roger Glover says. “Steve did the demo for that one. You never quite know where it‘s gonna go with Steve because he is very inventive. Right up until the point, with a couple of verses in, it was pretty much the same as the original. And then, all of a sudden, it took off like a rocket… in some other space.”
“Turning to Crime” is the first studio album by Deep Purple entirely made of songs not written by the band and previously recorded by other artists. It is produced by Bob Ezrin and will be released on earMUSIC on November 26, 2021.

@@arhivariusRU A lot of songs get covered where the cover is pathetically bad, like that horrible Madonna mangling of American Pie, or Lennie Kravitz completely destroying American Woman so badly I didn't even realize it was supposed to be a cover of something the first 2-3 minutes of hearing it. Others get covered so well the original artist says it's better - All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix vs Dylan's original is a classic example. Others are close - Turn the Page by Metallica vs Bob Segar, Sounds of Silence by Simon & Garfunkle vs Disturbed. Some "reworks" work (reference the last 3), others should have never existed. This one is in the middle class IMO - good, but not as good as the original.

@@aqalkalayuda Well, I wouldn't quite agree. They released "Whoosp!" only last year. Who records a new album every year? It was done in 60s! And it's not that easy to make covers without adding your own touch to it, so that ,in the end, your version sounds like yours own song. And I appreciate when established bands, or musicians in general, want to record a good song by their colleagues. Even if they do it so well, beauty for the ears !! And remember what Deep Purple recorded in their beginnings? Processing classics !! So I fell in love with them right away.

As a lifelong Purplehead, I was one of the few old diehards who didn't immediately start groaning when they announced that they were going to do an entire album of covers. I stuck up for the lads, saying, "Come on, given all that talent and all that history, virtually anything they do is going to be amazing! Shit, I bet the lads could do an entire album of friggin' nursery rhymes, and STILL pull it off with grace and style." I'm overjoyed to have been proved abso-freakin'-lutely right on this one, lads. A brilliant cover, very faithful to the original, while still featuring that inimitable Purple twist! You guys totally rock, and if this first cut is anything to go by, I'm sure the rest of the album will be absolutely stellar! Keep up the great work, lads... you're still beautiful, and we old diehard fans still love ya!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I was very impressed with this tune; they kept it very faithful to the original at first, before adding their unique Purple twist. Been a DP fan since the first time I heard “Hush”, I was about 8 or 9. It’s been pretty damn awesome to have their music on this entire run since that first song I heard from them. I’ve never cared about what was ever written about them at any time or fallen into the “Blackmore” issues. For me it’s always been about their music. Yes, Ian Gillan sounds pretty good here. Not necessarily younger, but much clearer. I think there are 2 reasons in particular: 1. Rested voice, no tour shortly before 2. In the newer / current songs of the last 10-12 years or so he no longer tries to sing as he did when he was 25. His voice has become deeper, and given his age, that's normal and okay. And in this lower register he still sounds great and shows that he is an excellent singer - even if he can't get "Child In Time" and other high voices from the seventies and eighties.

Very cool. I have started to think that the "old" rockers who invented the forms of music that have influenced or formed the foundation for so much of what came after, and have lived and survived so many years in the life of rock 'n' roll musicians, are cooler by far than the young dudes. Life experience, and having survived so many years as rockers, makes them seem "stronger" than young cats. The only thing I would have changed about this video is that I would have liked to see Steve's fingers flying on the guitar. It sounds as though either his osteoarthritis has improved or he's found a way to deal with it, because he's clearly recaptured some of the old dexterity and blazing chops from when he was younger.

Coverdale is the voice of Deep Purple too. He was Mark 3 in Deep Purple history. Coverdale didn’t sing Smoke on the water but neither did Gillan sing the fantastic Burn. Mark 3 has given the masterpieces to music history such as Burn, You Fool No One, Mistreated, Stormbringer, Soldiers Fortune, Sail Away, etc ..

Great Video. Scribble Face looks a bit like David Gilmour IMHO, or? That Robert Allen Zimmerman reference made me laugh out loud. I'm glad they also used Part 2 for the final section. (I absolutely love Part 2 of the original Oh Well - it's got to be listened in the darkness - nothing should distract from its beauty.)

@@hardrockpete Maybe Elton John. Maybe a greedy manager. (They got a Ray Charles notation "Let the good times roll" from him! - But Elton recorded "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" together with Ray in 2004. So maybe it's Elton.) I suppose the band they robbed could be Fleetwood Mac in 1969 when they recorded "Oh Well". Look at pictures from that period, quite similar beards, hair colours. (Well, actually they 'stole' their song now...) Another funny thing I found is the prison sign Ian Gillan holds at the end: Sing Sing! (A very well protected prison in NY state.) - Best place to be for a Singer! 😄
